...huh? beLIEve, everyone could do that! lol, what's it's significance?Probably because when you're a child, you're not taught exactly how the world is and as you get older, you start learning that the world isn't how you think it's supposed to be when you were little. So it's a lie?
Something like that, I guess. I'm not sure how to explain it very well but it has something to do with that.

It's not mine btw, I wouldn't shamelessly plagiarize someone elses lyric for post secret. It's meant to be something personal to you - not something amy lee wrote.

Someone else's lyric can just aswell be personal to you, if you really relate to it.
lol, like the OP said, it was just a matter of time ;)

Yes I understand that, but that postcard was done in a completely boring, impersonal way. It's just lazy. Can't people have original thoughts instead?

even though I'm doubting it
maybe they did think that up themselves, and thought it was original?
i know i've written poems that end up having the same or similar lines from songs
even though I really don't believe it was a coincidence

Well, it's only boring and impersonal to that small, dedicated Ev fan base that knows where it came from. I'm sure everyone else thinks it's beautiful. :D The LIE in believing was an original and interesting touch, I guess. Give them credit somewhere, anyway.

Actually there is a Fall Out Boy song with a lyric "the best part of believe is the lie"

Have you ever seen the video for Dirty Little Secret. The post cards in that video are like whats on that site. Its really moving, actually. And those words can be used by anyone. I know they sound like lyrics from Fields of Innocence, but anyone can come up with that. No offense to Amy but its true. And maybe that person might even hold those lyrics close to their heart.

It makes me wonder how many more of them are lyrics ripped off from your favourite band...
Then again, maybe these words are personal to whoever sent it, even though they are Ev lyrics.

People are so ****ing stupid. What's the point of this thread?
The point of this thread is that the site postsecret (which is in fact very well known - VERY well known) has a postcard with evanescence lyrics on it.
My beef with it is that if they felt like that they coud have written something from their own heart, rather than just using lyrics. It's not that people will look at it and go "that's from an ev lyric" because most people wouldn't know that song - but it's just that they must be completely empty of ideas to have to do that.

Well I hadn't even heard of the site postsecret before I came across this thread so it can't be that well known or am i just "so ****ing stupid"? And maybe it's just because I don't know what that site postsecret really is all about, but I can't see what's the big deal about using lyrics? Maybe they can relate to them in some way as others have said previously on this thread?

People are ****ing stupid if when they don't know what postsecret is, they ask ME what it is instead of just clicking on the link to find out for themselves. It's just lazy.
And yes I realise that they probably relate to the lyrics - but I still think it's lazy to use someone elses words. If I was sending a postcard to postsecret even though it would be tempting to use lyrics from bands I like, I'd feel much more like it was MY secret I was sharing with the world if I came up with a way to say it myself. And if I could make that way beautiful and thought provoking then all the better. I wouldn't just using someone elses words.

Yeah we ask you because you're the one who started the thread, and I did click the link but at that point I didn't see the significance of someone using lyrics. But as you have kindly pointed out it's better to come up with a way to say something yourself, so now I understand.

Well, I find it kind of neat.
Yeah, so they stole the lyrics from an Evanescence song; big deal.
Sometimes you just find those lyrics that say it best,
and you can't figure out any other way to express how you feel.
I think its still possible to be able to relate it,
who cares if someone else thought of it first.
I don't think this person meant to make it seem
like they are so great and original for writing that, and sending it in.
Something tells me, its probably a dedicated Evanescence fan,
considering most people haven't heard of "Field of Innocence".
Anyway, for those of you who do not understand the whole PostSecret thing,
it's just a thing where you anonymously write one of your biggest secrets,
onto a postcard and send it to this guy who publishes all of them in a book,
or in this case he posts them onto the PostSecret blog for other people to read.
People use it so that they feel like they are telling someone,
even though there is no way to know who sent the card in.

When it comes down to it, every word and phrase has been used in a song somewhere at some point in time by some band in some country.

Wow...no need to get so angry. There are some things I can only say through lyrics. Sometimes other people can word my issues better than I can. I can understand why they would uses lyrics.
and no...I did not send that postcard.

Why does it matter who did it? Are you mad because someone did that?
It could have been someone who isn't a member of an Evanescence board, it could have been someone who is totally depressed and thinks everything is a lie because nothing is getting better, it could have even been someone who wants to be a child again because when you're a child there's that 'field of innocence' in the atmosphere because you 'know nothing.' I know I miss that feeling of being a kid and knowing nothing and I think everyone does.

I never realized that putting Evanescence lyrics on a postcard would cause such a commotion.
While I am sure no one will take me seriously, I sent in the postcard.. I've sent in a few, all of which are on my deviantart site (just a reference for anyone who wants to compare handwriting or whatever..)
While it was unoriginal to use lyrics, somehow I find that it was already said for me.
As not just a dedicated Evanescence fan, but as a person with a "secret" to send, I just felt it appropriate.
I'm doomed to bashing and whatever else for what could be a long time now I am sure, but I'm glad I sent it in and I'm glad I used the lyrics I did.
This sounds pretty vague.
I just don't know what to say for myself.

That's not the point at all. If you bring everything down to its monetry value then that's terrible.
I don't understand why everyone thinks I'm angry about this. I'm not - I'm just disapointed. It's not a commotion - it's just me saying it's unoriginal and everyone else saying I'm wrong.
Can I ask the sender; what was the point of the "beLIEving" thing? Why the lie? Did it have a deeper meaning or not?
