I lovelovelove this song. It's probably my favorite song from TOD. It's one of the few songs that I really liked the first time I heard the album, and the better I got to know it, the more I liked it.

There's so much about it that I love, I don't even know where to begin. I love the creepy voices at the beginning, I love the main vocals, I love the lyrics, I lovvvvvve the melody and the music... I love everything about this song. I think the vocals and the guitars complement eachother REALLY well in this song. The vocals don't draw my attention away from the guitars, they actually make the guitars stand out more. I especially love the guitar during the "Guess it wasn't real after all, guess it wasn't real all along..." part.

The start of what he taped for me had the very end of Cloud Nine, which I thought was pretty cool that they played it. This was one of my favorites on the new album from the beginning.
the verses are, in my opinion, very enticing. The chorus is amazing, and gets powerful for the second and third time.
and the bridge is the best of almost any evanescence song there is.

If i remember correctly, cloud nine is a term referring to a place of total happiness, which nothing could bring down, or something to that affect

so maybe, amy is saying that when she falls, that is her happiness, its where she belongs? If that is it.. it seems a little connected to lithium, maybe this happiness is the happiness of her dark/sorrow side?

and for the background vocals all i hear is "... then this way" at the tail end

reviewers only hear the album once and so because TOD is so adventurous and different it is difficult for anyone (even most ev fans) to accept this album on first listen!

As for this song. It is a great song, but it took me a few listens to appreciate. Then again, basically the whole album was that way. Cloud Nine and Lose Control don't get enough credit. Amy does some awesome, risky effects with her voice and it's sounds great.

I think it looks like that because the audio and video are not entirely in sync, so although the sound is playing, the video doesn't show her singing, or the parts don't match up.

In the first one there's just "Oo's" and and "All along." In the second one there's an "Ooo" and then "All along."

When Amy says "No light to lead the way" there's a background vocal that says "Never thought that it would end this way."

Well It's a hard song to sing.

And, often when she's singing live, Amy makes a lot of technique mistakes. That could be a reason. As well as the fact that she runs around on stage a lot and could have over extended herself. If they go seamlessly into a song or almsot seamlessly, she doesn't get much of a break.

Personally, I wasn't that impressed from That video. But it could've been that she just had a bad night.

i'd say this song is tied for best bridge on TOD (with YS). i replay the "feel that HIGHghghgHGHHH" and the bridge over and over and over and over again! i love those two parts, i actually think this song is radio friendly and would do well.

I have the Senza Voce version but it's really crappy. I could make it an instrumental with my Camera but it'll take a few days because I'm leaving for Cleveland at 6:30am tomorrow and won't be back until Saturday evening and then I have all this homework to do, so I donno when I'll be able to get it to you.


If you have a non-sony portable CD player (like Durabrand, preferably the 2003 models, because I don't know about the newer ones) you can halfway unplug your headphones to where you can just hear instruments and it'll be an instrumental.




I don't know if you guys have noticed this or not, but I have plenty of times, that when Amy sings "Beg my broken heart to beat" the leading vocals only say "Bea–––––––—" and then the backing vocals (left audio in the vocal form) you can hear the "T" sound. It's pretty cool. You could probably unplug your headohones, like explained above, and hear it a lot better.

I've just got this idea for CLoud Nine's video, and it won't go out of my head, so I'd like to share it... :)

OK, beginning - Creepy operatic music = We see the scenery of a cold shoreside (Like Lithium... :o) with dark water. Then we see a flash of Amy, dressed in all black, the Evil Amy (I will refer to her as EM :)) and we then focus on the river/lake/water body - Beneath it ......

First verse = Amy Lee, Innocent Amy (IM :)) under water, when Em comes there (suddenly darkening the water) and sings till "sleep, sleep forever." She is trying to coax IM to come to land, carressing her cheek and decieving her. *drums* Tim (Yup! My version of this includes John and Rocky too... x.x, and yes, the guys are underwater! :D) swims up to her, and sort of holds her, like trying to say to IM that she shouldn't go up. But she becomes angry and says/sings: "I don't need to touch the sky, I just wanna feel that high!" And John swims up to her, tries to convince her (quietly) not to leave the water and she moves away from them and says (Pointing to the whole band [Rocky and Terry are underwater too]) "And you refuse to lift me!"

B-Section = We see IM surfacing, the weather is freezing, steam is coming out from her mouth, and EM is standing at the shore, with an understanding smile. There is snow, and a dark forest behind her. She sings this part. Then she helps IM out of the water. In the backing vocals, when the voice ges "all along", the camera focuses on Amy's foot; the second it leaves the water, the water freezes and a think layer of ice comes across it. The sun goes down, and the whole atmosphere becomes cold. The ice is tansparent, we see the band looking at her from the frozen water.

CHORUS = IM lets go of EM's hand, and sits on the shore of the bank. She sings the chorus to tha band, referring to the atmosphere (all is lost) then regretfully stands up, and leaves them under the frozen water as EM leads her to the forest.

Creepy operatic music = EM drags her deep into the forest.

Verse 2 = IM makes EM let go of her, basically she is dragged in the forest by EM, and she sings the chorus to EM... EM laugh evilly, and since she's a witch (for the record, she's a witch, if I didn't mention it above :p) she transports them deeper into the forest. When she says the last lyirc (IM - "Never gonna be your sweet, sweet surrender") EM smiles in her evil way, and disappears (with some reminescent of darkness)..

B-Section (again): IM looks around: she is now standing on the cold ground, in the deep forest, with a small circular clearing. She now regrets her ignoring her guys' warnings, and her leaving the water. She sings to her surroundings: "Guess it wasn't real after all!" Toward the end, we see all the band members, walking behind the trees, away from IM.

Chorus: Like the B-Section, IM sings this to her surroundings as well. When she sings "no light to lead the way" we see sort of a side view on a light above Amy's head, that narrows, and black, possibly bleeding thorns come up in the area where there is no light, trying to kill Amy, but withering to ashes in the light... Small rays of light close on the guys, as they come closer to Amy, protecting them from the thorns. Then she sits down on a rock and sings the rest of the chorus... almost crying to herself...

Bridge: In "In a dream," IM looks around, feeling it all as a dream.. Now the bandmates appear, all of them: John, Tim, Terry and Rocky - surrounding Amy. She runs to Terry and Rocky: "Will you give your love to me?" They're very cold and distant in behaviour, like this is a lesson for IM, that she should understand. Over to John and Tim: "Beg my broken heart to beat." John stands looking all mean with his arms folded, the moment she turns away, he unfolds his arms, and his angry expression softens. Looks at the sky above, "Save my life." Then slightly tilting towards John and Tim, while holding her head (showing how weak she is now) "Change my mind." IM collapses, and John rushes over and picks her up in his arms before she hits the ground. EM sees that, from behind a tree, and is devastated..

Chorus: The guys spread, and run towards the shore - as the light, the only thing to keep them alive is dying slowly. They run at distances from each other, and John is running with Amy in his arms (who is conscious, but just too weak - she is singing to the band to keep them going) small rays of light follow and keep up with the guys, but they narrow down. BY the time they reach the shore "All alone - is where....." We see (the grande finale! *drumroll*) Josh sitting in the shore (Yes, our favourite therapist is in the video too! :D) And John hands Amy to Josh, and at the last sequence ("I belong"), they all dive back into the water. :D

Creepy operatic music (for the last time) - EM screaming, thorns catch her, she dies! :D

7 seconds before the song ends = IM is refreshed, reunited with her band and Josh, she looks happy, and grateful to be in the water again.. :D

I love this song. It's been one of my top favorites since the first listen through the whole album. Which was weird, because a lot of people hated this song, or not so much hated it, but just didnt really like it. I've always loved it, and I think the weirdness and creepy vibe you get from listening to it is what drove me to it. Plus, to me, it sounded so different from all the other Evanescence stuff out there, and I was glad to here something that sounded like they were taking a risk; experimenting. I loved it from first listen, and I still do!

I don't think it deserves to be called the most "pop-like sounding song" on TOD. Doesn't sound very pop-ish to me.

That's true, she's amazing when she's singing acoustic, but I also love her jumping performances, LOL... They should give her a smaller stage, that way she doesn't have soo much space to go crazy...

as emotional as this song is, i always thought it was kind of a fun song. the beat is really cool and sexy/mysterious/creepy, and the intro vocal layering reminds me of that scooby doo episode with the skeleton martian ghost. XD so i always think of fred, daphne, velma, shaggy, and scooby creeping out of a haunted, deserted aircraft hanger and into a scary forest. XD and i also like the part where she does those turns on "high" and "gues it was real after all" it sounds influenced by southern gospel a wee bit XD so thats why i think that its also a funky song with not only a lot of emotion, but a lot of attitude as well. she might not have intended to make it like that, but a lot of my friends agreed with me on the scooby doo thing.
