This thread is about the song Hello, from fallen.

this song is not only my favorite ev song of all time (though it's a close tie to whisper2002 \M/) ist also one of the top 5 songs EVER in my book.

quoting briefly from the history available on other sites, Hello is a song Amy wrote to express her feelings over the death of her little sister, who died at a very young age. (BTW, we don't know why she died, and asking isn't a good idea, so DONT or you will likely be reprimanded.

To date, i am not aware of it ever being performed live in concert, and i belive it to be the only song on fallen never to be performed.

this song stirs feelings in me few songs ever have. in a word, this song is just simply AWSOME!!!

Beautiful song. Not that it means much, but one of my favourite lyrics from Evanescence. Delicate and still it's got some power. Also, Amy's voice is beautiful here.

I truly love Hello. It's not only sad but the way Amy is telling you how she feels is unbelieveable.. When i first got this cd I listened to this song and how she sounds and lyrics cought my attention. It not only reminded me of my sisters death but it reminded me of how Amy lost her sister and i feel the pain she went through.. I love this song more than any song on Fallen.

This song got sung on Australian Idol, i was not impressed. it was sung pretty well, but that someone who probably deems themself a fan sang a song which i think is best heard when in your room by yourself, not being sung to a massive audience when Amy makes the decision not to do so. (just my opinion)

'Don't try to fix me i'm not broken' is one my my favourite lyrics from Ev. It's so simple but so powerful.

there are actually two versions of hello, the demo version and the fallen version. slightly different but both still totally awsome. btw, while the song has never been performed live onstage, ive heard others int he concer threads state that the instrumental track was used ocassionally as prelude music whild the band was comint onstage. also, if i'm not mistakien when Amy's childhood piano was sold for charity on ebay, the guy who bought it got a cnance to jam with amy and played it while she sang it, making it a very rare live performance.

I love this song, and I love singing this song. The lyrics are so amazing, and the way she sings, it's just like a whisper. A whisper from the little girl had lost her sister. We can almost feel her pain. I can't listen to this without crying, and I'm sure, I'm not the only one ! Amy voice is a mix of deep and hopeless emotions. It's so amazing !

Yeah, you can feel the sadness of this song even if you don't know or understand the lyrics. It has a very dark atmosphere, full of pain and sorrow, and it's very easy to cry when you listen to it.

Omg, there's a demo version? Why are they slighty different?

the piano is the same, but the bass clef is much softer. i don't think they used a real cello on the demo. i think they used shore sound effects right before, "suddently i know..etc." amy's voice doesn't sound as mature either.

Okay. Is the "Hello" demo are those strings that start to fade in at 1:13. Or is that a choir with some effects on it? It's been bugging me.

I think they're strings but in a way I think it's a choir.

Omg, there's a demo version? Why are they slighty different?

There is a demo for every "Fallen" song except "My Immortal." There's mostly two for each but some there are 3.

This song makes me cry. I can hear Amy's pain. It just gets to me. And I start to cry. I feel bad for Amy. But I was shocked when I heard there was a message when you play it backwards. I am never going to listen to that.

It's not necesarily a 'message' per say, more of a coincidental sequence of words when played backwards. it actually adds that much more emotion and pain to the song and makes me look at the song from a totally different perspective.

It's a great song... it's way so deep. I almost cried when I heard it first.
And also is so lovely to play on the piano, I really like to play it. Though it's a bit repetitive, but at the same time is way so deep... so you don't care much of it after all.
The cello solo there is fulled of emotions; it's SO great!
And the last part of Amy's vocals. "Hello, I'm still here, all that's left of yesterday". It's like one of the most dramatic parts ever.

At first i didnt get it bu t i like it, but now that I know what its about i love, its one of my favorite songs. One day when i was listening to it i was so depressed I started crying and i felt her pain. It was so overwhelming, and it was weird cause i almost never cry, only when i am VERY angry.
Even writing about it makes me sad. Now i have a lump in my throat.
Poor amy.

See I'm the other way around. I'm numb to that stuff since I went through it all of my life but I still feel her pain.

I usually cry to this song and "My Immortal (Band/Mystery Versions)" when I'm depressed, really angry/at my breaking point, or when I need to break down and get everything out.

I also cry to "The Last Song I'm Wasting On You" because it's so powerful. And "Good Enough" because there's this guy and he's completely awesome. Yes I like him, alot. 8 months alot that is. and he just... i donno. Doesn't make me feel good enough but makes me feel like I'm worth something. No, I'm not with him. I will never be with him. That's fact. But it's the joy of being turtored. lol. I'm weird.

I love this song. It's a powerful and painful ballad about Amy losing someone extremely close to her at a young age, her sister. It kind of opens the door of seeing through the eyes of a hurt child, as does "Like You" on The Open Door.

Great song, with a unique out look on Amy's sister. it's a lot like Bleed, or 'I Must Be Dreaming', but it's better. Bleed is also about Amy's sister, of course. Amy's best writing seems to come out of the death of her sister-which is good, of course, that she, like few people, can use that sadness and articulate it with strong choruses and great songs. But, i guess most songs about a lost loved one are good

examples
Hello - Amy's sister
Like You - Amy's sister
Tears of heaven - Eric Clapton's son
*Sometimes you Cant' Make it on Your Own - Bono's daddy
River - Natalie Merchant's song for River phoenix
Candle in the Wind - Elton John's versions for Marilyn Monroe, and P. Diane

I hope someone writes a good song for Anna Nicole Smith--she was a great person, and i miss her a lot. Very beautiful, more so than most women.

I would have kept the piano. It is special. I heard that story. It's hard to hear Amy sing in the video. But now I wonder why he sold it on ebay. I wish I could meet Amy at her house.

He sold the piano because he had a child. He didn't give all the reasons why he sold it. He just said he had sold it because of the new born and he couldn't have it with a new born in the house, or that he couldn't afford it with the new child, or something like that.

I also agree with evmad25, except the sad part though. I view it as a happy song because when you play it when you're sad, it makes you feel a lot better because it is a sad song but it feels like you're putting your sadness into your own masterpiece. Along with the "My Immortal (Band Version)."

That's...a really beautiful way of putting it.

'Hello' is a very special Evanescence song. It's so sombre and sometimes I like to think of it as Amy's 'Immortal - ' as she later sings in 'Like You,' "And though I may have lost my way, all paths lead straight to you." I think that's the essence of 'Hello.' The confusion and fear in Amy's voice is a stark portrait of innocence lost.
It feels strange to hear this song in a shop, as I did recently. This song demands privacy and personal reflection.

I absolutly love this song. It's so beautiful, so emotional. And it doesn't matter whether you've lost someone, or not, everyone can relate to the lyrics - that feeling of constant sadness, the fact that (at times) you truly believe you cannot be fixed, and how you can mask it all with just a smile and a good lie. This song is truly one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever written in history (or so I believe). It has some meaning to everyone.

Is it just me, or does it sound like Amy's crying (or on the verge of tears) at "Sunddenly I know I'm not sleeping, Hello, I'm still here, all that's left of yesterday" to anyone else?

yea it does, she probably was too.

this is my fav song

A very sad, but good song. I really like how much emotion Amy puts into this song. I'm thankful that I can't relate to this song much, unlike some other Ev songs. I especially love the part where she sings "suddenly I know I'm not sleeping. Hello, I'm still here, all that's left of yesterday..."

Hi... I was wondering if anyone knows where I can find some sheet music for this song. I haven't been able to find any so far... By the way, I saw a guy and girl play this at a Cafe nearby (the guy played guitar, the girl piano + vocals) amazing combination... I'll try and get a video up soon...

I really like the fact that Amy is saying Hello when she should be saying goodbye... Sometimes it creeps me...

I think she's saying hello as "Hello, is anybody out there?" If you look at the lyrics, it talks about how Amy was too little to understand death and she thought it was some kind of hide and seek and she was expecting her sister to come out of somewhere.

If I smile and don't believe, soon I know I'll wake from this dream (she smiles because she thinks it's a game)

Don't try to fix me I'm not broken (because she still doesn't believe she's gone)

Hello, I'm the lie living for you so you can hide... (she's calling out for her to come out of where she's hiding)

Suddenly I know I'm not sleeping... Hello, I'm still here, all that's left of yesterday (as "I know the truth now, but I'm still waiting for you, for the memory of yesterday")

this song really gets me, and the way you explaned it Last Angel, it simply made me tear up...

Anyway, I wrote the song long ago, just found it in old files, it's what I think I hear, THIS IS NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLLY, it's just some creative writing I put together...
All the ya('s) refur to you... keep in mind while reading.

Hello Reversed.

Heee----hey!

No sign of friends
S'no more
He hurt me all over
Hear me it was not me--- yeah
Let us..

Knock the door, May
Know yourself
Giving,
Ya love me all
My immoral inside your voice, your snores
Yourself, you love or ya lose
Evil
One night, I'll still feel

Wall
Oh there is no one swinging,
Annoy me all
Hear me, run
Just lay low so no one says, yeah
May, Into snow shake here
May,
Your love all, snore here…

AGAIN NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLLY! It's just something I put together. some of it might not make sense though:p
It make me sad sometimes to sing it backward...andI start laughing when I read "your snore," and "snore here" xD but it makes sense to me, as in sleep here.

Hello is one of my least favorite Evanescence songs. Don't get me wrong, I think the lyrics are powerful, beautiful, or emotional. It's just the way the melody and piano flow. It doesn't draw me in as much as I would like. That being said, it's still a good song...

I'm debating it now. I noticed you can hear it even more clearly than I noticed before. I thought I heard a clock in my room last night when I was listening to my personal cd player, but then I realized that it was that sound again. I'm starting to change my thinking of it being the foot pedal to it being on purpose. It sounds like a clock ticking and then the ticking stops and you hear a door close... like it's a grandfather clock and someone just stopped the time.

I think it sounds like a wallclock, too, other than the banging noise after the ticking stops. I actually thought it was a clock when I was listening to it a couple of nights ago until I remembered I don't have a wallclock in my room. :p

Lol. It's the pedal being released. It's not a door. And the ticking is a metronome. The pedal being lifted has been confirmed because on most pianos when you lift your foot off the pedal it makes that sound.

Amy uses a real piano on CD recordings.

If it was an accident they may not have heard it and therefore it didn't get edited out of the song. If it was an accident and they noticed it then they most likely kept it in there for an effect.

a VST?

you have to buy a recording program like cubase or protools and buy the software (for example, atmosphere has all the eerie creepy sound effects/instruments and a VST like the grand is the highest quality replica of a grand piano you can use in a program like cubase.. thus your piano = the **** on recordings or miroslav's philharmonik is a VST choir sample where you can do high quality choir/orchestra parts for your recording - really awesome) and you get access to all the sounds/plugins it offers.

Steinberg's Virtual Studio Technology and its acronym VST refer to an interface standard for connecting audio synthesizer and effect plugins to audio editors and hard-disk recording systems and also giving the plugins a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for easy manipulation. VST and similar technologies allow the replacement of traditional recording studio hardware with software counterparts. Thousands of plugins exist, making VST the most widespread audio plugin architecture. The technology can be licensed from its creator, Steinberg.

I'm sad today so I think that it's a good day to comment this song.
I just remember that I've cried so many times while listening to it.
There's a lot of pain inside that you can feel so clearly and it's so clear that it makes you feel sad too.
And that's not a bad thing, not at all.
But my greatest regret is that I know now all the pain Amy suffered and I'm just dying because I had no way to help her. I wrote that into the letter I gave her, but that still makes me cry so much.

This song is so beautiful and probably ties for my favorite song on that albulm. I guess I love how it's just piano and some strings and there is so much passion in her voice. At the time I got that CD, that song just meant so much to me (and still does). I felt really confused and alone and too young to be taken seriously. When she says "Don't try to fix me- I'm not broken" and "Hello I am the Lie living for you so you can hide." those parts pretty much described everything I was feeling then, and do sometimes feel still. I know that her motive for writing that song was the death of her sister, but I love that the words can relate to so many other things too.

I love this song, it's so touching and sad, but hauntingly beautiful. It is definitely one of my many favourite Ev songs.
I love that video, even though you can barely hear her singing.

God I love this song...I can't even express how much this song means to me. Words can't describe how it makes me feel. Like I love all Evanescence songs, and I won't say this is my favorite...but I don't think there's one I can relate to better, that makes me feel this way.

Hehe mine too :) I actually got it in like one hour, it's not that hard to play I think.
And it's funny how a lot of people like this song. I gave it to my friends and neither of them listen to Ev or that kind of music still they said to me that Hello is so beautiful. I even got a reply from one really hard brutal metal whatever guy and he liked it hehe too funny

The song made me cry the first time I heard it. Also, Amy's sister died of an "unknown illness". I read on another forum that she had a seizure in a bathtub, but I haven't heard that anywhere else. This song has actually taught me a lot about myself. I saw my older sister get taken away in hand cuffs when I was in fourth grade.

Also, the piano part is so pretty. It's not hard, either. ^-^ (Sorry if that sounded all emo, but that is the song I relate to most on my ipod)

I get to do a calligraphy project in my art class, and my teacher said we could do song lyrics.

So of course I want to do an Evanescence song! I ended up picking Hello, because it sounds like a poem. A beautiful one. This song also has a lot of sendimental meaning to me, it reminds me of when my dad died. I dont even know how many times this song has brought me to tears.

I cant wait to see how the project turns out.

Hello is very special to Amy and you can obviously tell when you listen. Amy doesnt like disscussing the song either. I cant listen to it without crying when Im alone because it reminds me of being an 11 year and being told my Mum had just died. Same as Like You.

What I really like about this song is the violin part. I always wondered who plays it.
The song overall is surely amazing. Sad and dark, the blend of those two aspects with the extremely deep lyrics and the amazingly beautiful music makes this song one of the best Evanescence has ever made.

I think it was David on one of those all mighty wonderful keyboards.

What makes me think this is because when you watch the "Making of 'Fallen'" videos you see David paying a string ending to "Whisper," on a keyboard.

Plus I can play the cello part on my Amy piano as well.

Actually, in the Fallen booklet it says "All strings arranged by David Campbell and David Hodges except Track 4 string arrangement by Graeme Revell. Strings recorded and mixed by Mark Curry Recorded at the Newman Stage,Twentieth Century Fox. Strings Recordist John Rodd..."

So I think they actually had someone play a cello on the album. David H. may have come up with the rhythm and the notes, but why not have a cellist play on the album?

Yes, but I'm kinda worried that some of the strings aren't real. Perhaps David wrote the arrangements on the keyboard and then got the string ensemble to perform them.
I think that the piano is just keyboard, though.

Well, the band instrumental version was made by some unknown person, but it was in the wrong key, so I took it and altered the pitch to the proper key. Then, EmptyChild took it and mixed the original song with the instrumental.

I think the version I have on my computer is higher quality than the one just posted, based on what I streamed of it.

Yeah. This one girl from my school, at the beginning of the school year, got shot in the face and died. It was pretty sad. It was right before Thanksgiving too, I think. From what I heard about her, she was really nice. And what I read in the paper about her, she turned her life over to God about 3 months before she died. She was active in church and youth group and everything. It was a pretty sad time. A lot of people were talking about it and everything. She was in my friends art class, my friend said she was really nice and was always giving compliments, and she was in my lunch. So yeah...

Just noticed around 3:34 you hear the clicky...just fyi too!

That band version is interesting. The drums were kinda predictable, and I didn't like when she was singing with the band part at the same time (but that's only because it isn't an official version so it wasn't recorded in the same studio kinda thing, her voice gets drowned out)... but it was cool. I liked the guitar solo thingy...the part at the end sounded very familiar, though...very Evanescence-y.

To date, i am not aware of it ever being performed live in concert, and i belive it to be the only song on fallen never to be performed.

this song stirs feelings in me few songs ever have. in a word, this song is just simply AWSOME!!!#
i agree with u it is tottally awsome. i just love this song. the way tht the lyrics go and how she sings it but then again she evry song lovely. but this is my first favourite song and it is amazing. marianne
