View Full Version : Data Recovery
I recently reformated my computer and the disk I backed everything up on is screwed. Is their any free software I can use to get the data (photos, videos e.c.t) back without a cost?
You can download any of these softwares:
- INSPECTOR File Recovery 4.0 (http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm)
- Handy Recovery (http://www.handyrecovery.com/)
- RESTORATION (http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html)
- PC Inspector Smart Recovery (http://www.pcinspector.de/smart_media_recovery/uk/welcome.htm)
- Fundelete (http://www.sysinternals.com/)
- Easy Recovery PRO (http://www.ontrack.com/)
- Drive Rescue (http://www.canadiancontent.net/tech/download/Drive_Rescue.html)
I hope one of these works for you!

Wouldn't it be better and smarter to make backups before formatting?

Well, ya, but what if the same thing happens to me like it did to him and the backups get screwed up or something?

In that case, I'd recommend an on-line backup solution such as Carbonite (http://www.carbonite.com/raf/signup.aspx?RAFUserUID=16186&a=0).

One more program to this list - FinalData Premium/Enterprise (http://www.finaldata.us/products/products_fd_prem.php), once this prog just saved me, found 99% of the files I needed.
I actually got everything back, like EVERYTHING back with a program called "getdataback". It cost money but I axidently found a serial number to activate it and my hand slipped onto the mouse and entered the serial.

lol nice 'luck' demonicbeing
if you plan to reformat, make backups of everything you want to keep
suggestions:
- portable external harddrive
- memory cards/sticks (if you have just a few things to save)
- a second internal harddrive (this is the best and safest solution, i have done this myself... also handy if the reformatted drive screws up when reinstalling windows as my 2nd harddrive alreayd had windows installed on it BEFORE backing up to it so i had a backup entry into my computer while i sorted the problems =D)
... also never reformat unless you HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE, it is generally a last resort sort of thing

I reformat like monthly. I like going on my computer when it's all clean and new again like when I brought it lol

getdataback... thats a great proggy to use.
i use nortons ghost to "ghost"/make an exact backup copy my harddrive. its small simple and ez to use.
and careful reformatting every month. u can over reformat... and lose physical space on your hard drive also might screw up ur head/cyl.

What?
Formatting and reinstalling is nothing but more read/write operations. No different in any way whatsoever from everyday data access and storage.
You won't ruin **** from "overformatting", wherever that term came from.
Pfffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. Biggest ******** post I've ever read.

Wow, that is extremely time consuming. You'd be better off just being careful what you install or download. I haven't formated my computer since i built it. If you still want to format I suggest partitioning your hard drive(s). Make one partition say 20gb to install windows on. Use another partition for storage. I have one for windows, one for storage, and one for games. Do this and you won't need to back up your data as frequently. When you want to format just format your windows drive and reinstall certain programs. Some may not even require a reinstall.
