The soung is quite unique. I didn't know what to expect with Korn acoustically, but they did a fine job, if this is anything by which to gauge the rest.
But why in the hell are the band members wearing like, pig masks and various other retarded mask bull****? They look beyond retarded.
They aren't band members ... are just musicians ... The peoples without mask (except Amy) are korn's members :)

Does anybody know if any of the other musicians were vaguely famous? I'm just asking coz Nirvana got Melora Creager from Rasputina to do the cello on their unplugged album if I remember correctly....

The song was absolutely amazing. Amy's voice fit perfectly (in my opinion). Other than that, the music was amazing how they made the freaky music with the strings and stuff....but anyways, it was great! Thanks for getting the links.

I think i know... don't blame me if i'm wrong .... because the title of the cd/dvd is "Korn - Mtv Unplugged" ... and the video's name "korn feat.amy lee - freak on a leash" ... NOT hired musician feat. Amy Lee =)) ... they are different than the "stars" of this thing :) .. now... they wear those ... masks ...'cause we are not able to see their faces:) just korn's members faces and amy's face :)

But, I love the part where Amy is singing all the "oooohs" or whatever.

Pretty freakin' badass. I've always loved Korn, though. I really loved the finished product. I'm hoping Comcast will put the video on the On Demand channel. They have other Korn videos up. I've never seen anything Ev-related on On Demand (Windup should maybe look into that for their artists), so maybe that'll work out.

Umm go get a ruler and have a look at exactly how big 2 inches in, I think Katy might have been exaggerating just a little bit :P.
Very cool. I'd never heard the original before so I can't compare it but I really liked it Amy sounded amzing as she usually does acoustic.

hehe i think she meant a 2-inch window, not screen. when you try to watch it full-screen the quality is crap. so i'd imagine it would look a hell of a lot better on TV :)

Loved it. I've listened to it heaps since I downloaded it this morning and I still love it. I'm somewhat a Korn fan but not so much so that anything could ruin a song for me, not that I think Amy could ever ruin a song, but I had an open mind and I wasn't worried at all about the outcome of the performance. I'm really, really impressed with everything. The arrangement was fantastic, Amy's performance was beautiful, emotional and powerful, Jonathan was great, and their voices worked really well together.
I’ll probably try and get a hold of the CD/DVD when it comes out just for this.

the first lyrics Amy sings on this track are very compelling and for me confirm she has the best female singing voice out there as well as being fantastic live!
She gives this song i different dimension and although i am not a fan of Korn this song interests me with Amy in it.

Gotta hand it to Korn. Based on this song...I know they're going to alienate a good portion of their fanbase. I'm sure some of you have seen that already...but what they're doing with their music is ballsy.
Among the stations playing it or that have added the song:
KROQ-FM Los Angeles
KCXX-FM Riverside (hey, that place sounds familiar)
KXTE-FM Las Vegas
Sirius Octane
Now, I don't know how much airplay this is going to get. Recently, historically speaking, songs that have been released to radio from these kinds of albums don't normally get extensive airplay (read Staind's "Sober" and Dark New Day "Follow the Sun Down"). But I must say that this definitely deserves some sort of push. It's so completely different from the original, that you have to play the two back to back to really grasp the changes.

Well, currently, it's only going for radio adds on rock stations. The way I see it is that if it does very well on alternative/active rock stations (talking top 10 airplay/audience)...then I can see Korn's record label potentially wanting to add the song to pop stations...certainly couldn't hurt.
I don't think I've heard too many straight up unplugged songs get added to pop stations unless the song is already popular and has a new mix of the popular song.
I do. Didn't Nirvana's unplugged performance make charts?
Alternative/rock stations wise...you still hear the songs from that album so it was definitely popular and still is.

Y'know what though? It's the same old thing. A band tries something a little different and the supposed hardcore fans turn on them for daring to change things up. I've seen loads of the "real" Korn fans saying how this has ruined the band's reputation and how they won't listen to their music anymore. Well, in that case those "fans" were never fans at all.
It's like how Green Day or My Chemical Romance fans turned against the bands when they tried to change their styles a little bit and were suddenly getting played on all the radio stations. All of a sudden they were too mainstream to be liked anymore. Pearl Jam, REM, NIN. All bands who dare to be different with each new album and piss off some of their less openminded fanbase.
If you like a band and respect their talent then you should be willing to give anything they do a try and see it for the work that it is. You may not always like it but that doesn't mean that you need to start slagging the band off at every opportunity and declaring that you are burning all of their cds. People like that really annoy me.
Rant over. ;)
Getting back to the song, this is amazing. I love Freak on a Leash and never imagined a quieter, more laid back version being workable but how wrong was I? This rocks. Of course, Amy's vocals definately help in that . :D

Wow! I just viewed this performance on YouTube and it was amazing! The Korn members played brilliantly and Amy put on her best singing performance ever throughout the whole thing. I think she may have slipped in the second chorus when she accidentally said "****", but, other than that, her voice was flawless. I will definitely listen to this song more often becuase Korn seems like a very good band with an incredible amount of talent.

so she has to sing it all the same way? i think she really varies her vocals. i also like that she's the one in the chorus doing the lower key and jon does the (slightly) higher one.

I do wish that Amy got to sing her own verse, but whatever... I like her vocalizing :p

i think it sounded horrid. Amy didn't sound at her best, and the lead singer of Korn can't sing worth anything (at least not that night). It doesn't sound like a Evanescency song (because it's Korn song:p ) but Amy should stick to her roots.

I don't care much for it either. I've never been a Korn fan at all. Amy's contribution wasn't bad or anything, but the song as a whole isn't great.

I guess that it goes without saying that your level of appreciation for this song is going to be effected by whether you like Korn or not. Just because you happen to be a fan of Ev and Amy doesn't mean that you have to like everything she is involved with.
Like I said in my post further up, I'm a big Korn fan anyway and I love their usual stuff. This song is an old favourite of mine so add that to the guest vocals of the lovely Amy Lee and you can't go wrong, as far as I'm concerned.
Now if Amy ever does a duet with the Arctic Monkeys or The Streets I may have more of a problem liking it! Not even she can stop either of those bands from sucking. ;)

Actually, that's not the case with everyone. I personally don't like Korn at ALL. But this version of FOAL is just amazing to me, and it's not just because of Amy. I love the piano, the drums, the cellos, the acoustic guitars...I really love the whole song; I think the way they re-tooled it for this Unplugged session was brilliant.
I think it's much more dependent on the style of music that you like, but that's just me. I've seen some people in this thread who are Korn fans who aren't so keen on this song, and I've seen some that are...I've seen a lot of us here fall over ourselves (myself included) and some who aren't into it. So it really just depends on your own personal tastes.

I actually originally put something along those lines in my previous post. A paragraph saying that whilst there are some that will be letting their dislike of Korn get in their way of liking this song there will also be others on the flipside of the coin who will be letting their love of Amy's vocals override their disike of the band or the song. I deleted it because I didn't like how I'd worded it and was too lazy to rewrite it.
But yeah, my typing laziness notwithstanding, I do agree with what you said. :)

Exactly. It's not just simply about the voices and who it is singing. We all know that half the reason most of us listened to this song is because of Amy. If it had been any other female singer I can almost guarantee you it wouldn't be as popular as it is. Anyway back on topic, it's not only about the voices, it's about the instruments, the intricacy of it and the complexity. Breaking down a Korn song is no easy task, but they pulled it off, and did a very good job with it. I highly enjoyed not only the vocals, but the background music and the piano and the melodys. Amazing.

You know, something just occurred to me. I think one of the reasons I love Amy's vocals so much in this song is the fact that she used some vibrato. She sings almost everything else straight, with no vibrato at all. It was refreshing to hear her using it a bit, it adds depth and maturity to her voice, I think.

I just saw the vid for "Freak..." on YouTube. I'm sorry, but I could barely listen to the whole thing, it was painful. Jonathan Davis sucks! Amy sounded awesome, as always. I really liked the vocals she did in the middle, with that middle-eastern kinda sound. Very sexy. I just think that Korn should really stick to the anger music, because the sensitive thing... ain't happening.

Airplay update: Not too shabby so far.
Between yesterday and today, Freak on a Leash is already top 10 most played on KXTE-FM Las Vegas, which does have a streaming station. It's the second most played new song just behind Chevelle's new single from their latest album.
It seems like this song has gotten more of a push out the gate than Lithium ever did.
Alternative Markets just added: St. Louis, Springfield, West Palm Beach, Boise, Burlington (Vermont), Knoxville and Springfield (Missouri).
It's almost Top 50 on the Active Rock format and it's rising very quickly. At least on this particular format, they're actually getting more play than Chevelle's new single (I talk about Chevelle simply because Chevelle is one of the bigger rock bands on either of these two formats and because new songs normally = huge airplay)
Currently #2 Taking Off just behind Bullet For My Valentine's All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me) and currently ahead of Daughtry's It's Not Over.
Active Rock Markets just added: Monmouth Ocean (New Jersey), Spokane, Detroit, Appleton, Nashville, Wichita
From the looks of things, this could be at the very least a modest hit as far as rock is concerned.
Those who like this song enough, should take advantage of the positive reaction to this song and request it at their local rock stations...and as I've mentioned before, if you don't have one...find a streaming station that rocks.

The song is a top 5 song in the first few days of playing the song on KXTE (34 times in the past week).

Jonathan Davis talking about why they chose Amy to do a song with them:
Launch Radio Networks reports: KORN's acoustic performance of "Freak On A Leash", with Amy Lee of EVANESCENCE on vocals, is making its way onto the airwaves now as the band prepares for the arrival of its "MTV Unplugged" broadcast and CD. Singer Jonathan Davis told Launch how the idea of collaborating with Lee came about. "I thought it would be really cool," he said. "She has an amazing voice, and when we were thinking of artists we wanted to have on with us, guests, we wanted to do something that was really left field and we didn't want to do the typical thing. So having her come on — we knew she was a fan, we met her before and she said she was a huge KORN fan when she was growing up — so we decided to have her come on and sing with us."

If this consistency continues for a few more weeks, we could be seeing a big rock radio hit.
Currently #54 on Alternative and #38 on Active Rock (where it's already passed Lithium within a week and a half of airplay).
KXTE in Las Vegas (Alternative) has played the song 43 times in the past week, by far more than ANY other station. Currently the #5 most played song on the station.
KISW in Seattle (Active Rock) currently has the song as the #3 most played song on the station behind Saliva's Ladies and Gentlemen (currently #2 on the entire format) and Pearl Jam's Love Reign O'er Me (and you know Seattle <3's its Pearl Jam).

That actually happens a lot more than one would think.
Double releases, even when they're not necessarily exactly the same artist, can throw one song off to the side.
Probably the best example as far as I remember was My Generation and Rollin' from Limp Bizkit. Rollin' became a big hit while My Generation was rather forgotten.

BIG sad face about "Lithium". Grr, I thought it would do so well on rock stations. I don't understand; why don't people like it? I think "CMWYS" is more pop than "Lithium". Everyone sucks. :sulk: Do you think there's the slightest possibility that if it gets real big in pop that it could make a comeback in rock? Or is that just extremely wishful thinking?

Airplay update...
The song is starting to slow down considerably as far as alternative stations are concerned...it's slowing down in terms of spin increases on Active Rock too, but at least on that format, it's rising in positions.
Active Rock currently has the song at #27.
Alternative has the song at #40. It's still rising...but it seems like it's not going to if more stations don't add it.
But I'm surprised that it's gotten as far as it has already based on the opinions of some of these dj's.

Well...
#1. It's Korn.
#2. Some of the bigger songs tend to do that. Depending on how long they do that after the week it goes for adds, they can eventually wind up in the top 10/top 5 and possibly #1.
Korn shouldn't have much of a problem selling as far as that album is concerned based on the push that MTV gave it right out the gate.

Yeah I noticed that. Kind of reminded me of "The Making Of 'Broken'" video on Disclaimer II. They interviewed Amy more on that than they did Shaun even though it was his group's song on his band's album.
Here's another trailer. There's no Amy in it but I thought I'd post it anyway 'cause it's just too cool. Japanese drums FTW.

Jesus christ, this is the coolest thing ever. Saws? That's so kick ass. They really went all out for this thing, and it sounds like it's really going to pay off. They could have easily just done some acoustic guitars, a little percussion, and called it a day, but they turned this into something so creative and just freaking amazing. I really can't wait.

Airplay update:
The song's surpassed Lithium as far as rock is concerned on all major rock formats.
It's not a huge hit, but it's significant with it about to move into the top 30 of alternative and the top 20 of active and mainstream rock stations.
For the record:
Alternative stations are like Top 40 stations for rock. Most important format for Evanescence.
Active stations tend to be heavier in general than alternative with very few exceptions.
Mainstream stations are more geared towards classic rock.
ghetto fab
02-16-2007, 07:58 PM
The song's also doing pretty well on iTunes. #42 overall and #8 on rock.
If it was up to me I would've had Amy's wailing/chanting be the preview for the song. :shy:

I don't get it... my (Boston's) Alt station (107.1 WFNX) NEVER plays Evanescence... and I mean never. Why? On the other hard, Rock101 (101.1) plays CMWYS a ton and its still one of the stations most requested.

Unplugged.MTV.com and URGE to Premiere Entire 'KoRn Unplugged' Album February 27, One Week Before CD Release on March 6
NEW YORK, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- MTV today announced that it will debut the latest installment of its critically acclaimed music series "Unplugged" by featuring Rock icons KoRn. "MTV Unplugged: KoRn" will be a multi-screen global event that will live across all MTV platforms -- including MTV.com, URGE and MTV Mobile -- in the U.S. and across multiple continents including Europe, Asia and South America. Filmed on December 9, 2006 at the MTV Times Square Studios, "MTV Unplugged: KoRn" features a full acoustic set of the band's most beloved hits. Additionally, KoRn were joined on stage by two of their most respected peers, The Cure and Amy Lee of Evanescence, for two once in a lifetime collaborations.
"MTV Unplugged: KoRn" will debut on Friday, February 23 with an exclusive first look on Unplugged.MTV.com. Viewers will have access to the performance in its entirety, a full week before its on-air premiere. "MTV Unplugged: KoRn" will debut on MTV Friday, March 2 at 11:30pm ET/PT. In addition, KoRn fans can go to Unplugged.MTV.com and join MTV News correspondent John Norris as he gets the inside scoop directly from the band on each of the songs they perform on "Unplugged." Also, Unplugged.MTV.com will launch a best of "Unplugged" show that will feature performances from various past "Unplugged" shows.
On February 27, MTV.com and URGE will give KoRn fans an exclusive opportunity to listen to the entire "KoRn Unplugged" album a week before its March 6 release date. In addition, URGE (available at urge.com) will offer the exclusive digital download of the album for one week prior to its general availability.
MTV Mobile will feature the full performance of one song featured on the show a week before the on-air premiere, as well as, 1-2 performances for 30 days after show premiere, full music videos and bonus content exclusively shot for wireless.
On VOD, the half hour version of "MTV Unplugged: KoRn" will be available on MTV2 On Demand starting March 9.
Trend-setting and Grammy-winning rock icons KoRn have sold more than 25 million albums and have received widespread critical acclaim for their music. The band has redefined the parameters of heavy music, revolutionizing the genre by matching unsettling guitar textures and volcanic rhythms with jagged, introspective lyrics and intense vocal stylings. KoRn are known for their extensive live touring schedule and for creating and headlining the highly successful Family Values Tour, which enjoyed its most successful year in 2006 with more than 400,000 tickets sold. For complete information about KoRn, visit their official website www.korn.com.
"MTV Unplugged" has been acclaimed by both critics and music fans and has spotlighted such artists as JAY-Z, Bob Dylan, Nirvana, Sting, Pearl Jam, KISS, Eric Clapton, Tony Bennett, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, and most recently Alicia Keys, MTV's most recent installment, "MTV Unplugged: Alicia Keys," on September 15, 2005 premiered with an exclusive first look online at MTV.com for one week leading up to the on-air debut. The performance was the most popular online program that week recording an impressive 1 million streams. MTV "Unplugged" is executive produced by Dave Sirulnick and produced/directed by Alex Coletti.

I'm glad someone liked it. It seems the local DJ's here don't. They criticized all the use of all the different instruments, the absence of the distorted guitars, and Amy singing on the song.

Good news for the song as far as Active Rock is concerned.
Currently it is #18 on that format and it looks like it's headed to the top 15. So it's a pretty sizeable hit on that format.
It's top 30 on alternative which isn't bad at all considering that's the toughest format to break on.

I used to think the DJ's were pretty cool until this pass month. First, they wouldn't even consider playing Lithium. and now, they're doing the same thing with FOAL.
Just a few minutes ago, the DJ reluctantly by his own admission, said he was going to play a couple of tracks from KoRn's Unplugged album. So I perked up hoping to hear FOAL. Instead, he played KoRn's cover of "Creep" and "Got The Life." Then after playing them, he mentions their MTV Unplugged will be on Friday and then advises Lubbock listeners NOT TO WATCH!!!! I guess there goes any chance of the FVT ever showing up in Lubbock.
I'm tired of their bull**** now. And I'm going to let them know they've lost a listener. Can anyone suggest a good active rock station that still plays Evanescence and streams on line?

Or maybe they'd gotten a lot of complaints from listeners and just wanted to give those complainers a fair warning -- "We're gonna play it now, you have three seconds to change the station."
I liked this song (-ish) when it was just Korn, but taking out some of its metal-ness, adding the tribal-sounding drums, toning Jonathan Davis down a bit, and bringing Amy in just made it unbearably flucking awesome.
