I know this sounds really selfish but...
*chatters teeth and bites nails like a maniac*
I'm really nervous about these Australian dates, especially this one, this means they're definitely NOT coming to the US the week of this show! Grrrrr...I really don't know what month they're coming now but the odds that they're coming to NY on the 23rd of March, the one day in March I have off of school are pretty slim! I presume I'll be having to wait another 2 years to see an Ev show since most likely my mom won't let me go on a school day? Ugh. This bites. REALLY REALLY HARD!
Sorry for sounding like a selfish, self centered kill joy, but to the Aussies who get tickets to this show, enjoy :)

they should play at mystery creek in hamilton not auckland i hate going up there and + y do concerts always have to be up there..+ i reckon if they played at mystery creek it would be way better cause its bigger and plus they would make more ticket sales..auckland are full of gangsters and try hards
Er, a city of around 1.3 million people probably contains more than just gangsters and try hards... Plus, the reason that a lot of bands play cities like Auckland, and also Wellington fairly often, is that they have a large enough population base to make the show worthwhile. ;)

Thats coz its from the st James Mailing list which i am on from seeing HIM there in March this year
email that addy to register for the presale
This is great - I've been waiting for this news since T.O.D. was released and was starting to doubt if they'd be playing here. :D Does anyone know if the show will be R18? A few I've wanted to go to at the St James have been (because of alcohol being sold there during the concerts), and though I doubt this will be I just want to make sure it's not before booking anything.
Roll on the 20th of February!

Okay, 1. That's just not true, obviously you don't live in Auckland.. not everyone are "Gangsters and Try-Hards" in fact there aren't many of those at all, that's such a ridiculous stereoytpe it's just not funny.. And 2. They play here because it's the biggest city, and they'd probably get more people here than if they played in Hamilton because even if the venue is bigger, Hamilton is very small compaired to Auckland. We can accomodate bands better here, just because we're bigger. It's just the way it is.

Okay i'm not trying to dissect this advertisement and be rude and say 'OMGZ ITZ SO FAKE!', BUT I have noticed some other things:
-the ad doesn't refer to the Open Door at least once.
-In the date it doesn't even say '2007'
I've contacted that email and still haven't heard of a reply!
However mknell did say he/she got it from the St James mailing list thing so that's kinda hard to argue with if it is authentic!

Hi guys!
This is Hilary from Ticket Direct... I've had a lot of emails from people quoting this message board asking questions about the Evanescence show at the St James in late Feb 07.
In short, YES - Evanescence are coming to NZ, they will be playing the St James in Auckland.
We are still waiting on final confirmation of the exact date - the promoters have to work around the touring commitments of the band, but we expect these details to be finalised in the next couple of days. Likewise, we are awaiting final confirmation of ticket prices.
The pre-sale that many of you have registered for will be taking place Fri - Sat of this week. If you have registered we will be giving you a call Friday afternoon to sell you your tickets. If you don't have a credit card available to you, we will give you a password and you will be able to purchase tickets over the counter ONLY from the St James on Friday afternoon until 6, or Saturday 11am - 4pm.
In response to some other queries raised - the St James is an R18 venue, thus under 18s need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Hope this clears things up for you all,
Kind regards,
Hilary @ Ticket Direct
ps. Public Sales start 9am Monday 15th January

No, I'm pretty sure it can just be anyone over 18 who can act as your "guardian" for the night. That's how it was for the Big Day Out so I'm sure it'll be the same. Anyway I'm sure we'll find out when the tickets go on sale.

There was no competition.

Btw, i think the price will range between $50 and $80. Thats just a guess from other bands that have played at the St James.

It doesn't have to be a legal guardian. I've never ever seen that to have been the rules for a concert before and I don't see why it would make a difference. Just someone over 18 to be your guardian.

Minors may attend these concerts when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian (friends or older siblings are not qualified legal guardians).

hi all Im a huge ev fan. Have been since 2005 when i really discovered them. I would recommend getting some of their older stuff as well - from Origin album and before as well as some old demos if you haven't already. I can't wait till the concert. I'm so glad they are coming to NZ. I would have loved to have gone to the other one but didn't really know them back then. I am travelling up from Napier and have all the trips etc booked. No way. That's freakin' bull****. Seriously. Sorry, but how do you know this if you're Australian? I refuse to believe that it's that strict. My mum's been to concerts at the St James before & she knows with the R18 thing and she never said anything about that being necessary. I'm going with my friend's mother who obviously isn't MY parent but is still a legal guardian and neither of them seemed to think that would be a problem. I really doubt they'd be THAT strict. That is just ridiculous.
Well I know this because I contacted the st james about it, because my friend from NZ wanted to come but because of this we don't wanna risk it. You may be able to get by with ur friends mum but then again you may not. Your friends mother is actually a guardian, not a legal guardian, trust me we were trying to find ways around it. When your mum went to the St James concert was it with anyone who is under 18?
Oh yeah I have been to the St James before for a concert, just coz I'm from Australia don't mean I haven't been there before
mknell
01-14-2007, 03:38 PM
Here is the email responce I got
Hi,
Unfortunately people under the age of 18 need to be with their own parent, it is only if the parent has passed away or is living overseas that a legal guardian can be appointed. Rhis involves more than just the written permission of the parents, so your cousins will have to go with their own parents if they wish to attend the concert
Thanks,
Jenny

Yay I'm going from Napier too... Screw the seats! I sat last time and ended up standing up the whole time. I looked like a dick but that's ok I enjoyed myself. This time I'm going for gold and doing the whole GET SMOOSHED next to random people so you can't breathe experience. Should be fun in a bun.
Btw does anyone else in NZ have an original of Origin? I seem to be the only one. muahahahah. It's framed on my wall.

Indeed it is, like really it should be 18+ only or all ages none of this in between thing
Though it is better to work it out now than to get there & not be able to get in & have wasted $80

My mum rung up some person whos number was given to her from ticket direct in paraumu to ask if she could take me and my mate and yeah we are both under 18 and they said my mum could bring my mate if she brought a letter form her parent saying my mum could be her guardian so maybe thats aloud and you can get in with another parent with your own parents permission..

Hi Again,
Just need to clear a couple of things up...
1. This show is R18 because there are several bars in the the St James Theatre Complex.
2. Therefore it is standard NZ law, which is enforced by the Auckland City Council, that applies - Children must be accompanied by their own parent or legal guardian.
3. The 'rules' are not set by the St James Theatre - as I said above, it is the law. Just as you cannot go into any bar or club in NZ with just anyone over 18, you cannot go into the theatre complex.
4. I have heard lots of stories from people saying "But last time I went I was allowed in...". Shows such as HIM, Panic! at the Disco and AFI were 'All Ages' gigs. Evanescence is not.
5. If you bring a letter from your parent saying that you can go with someone other than your own parent or legal guardian YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN. I'm not sure who anyone is claiming to have spoken to but it certainly wasn't the St James or Ticket Direct Auckland Staff, anyone who claims there is a way around this law has been misinformed and if we were to allow minors into the complex we would be breaking the law.
Hope this clears things up,
Thanks
Hilary

Aw awesome! I got it when Evanescence first realeased BMTL. There were a few around on ebay and a good friend of mine in Arkansas who has an original checked it out for me.
There have been so many concerts I've wanted to go to when I was under 18 but couldn't. I'm sure they will come back!! And since it has been so popular I mean the m stand is sold out!!!... maybe we should try to get one in wellington at a venue where it won't be R18... just an idea... long shot...

This is what I think:
They tell you that you can get in "with just a letter" from your parents supposedly saying that so-and-so is your guardian for the night now thus you go and buy your $80 ticket.
On the night, they say 'NO' and deny you entry, your ticket is taken away and probably sold elsewhere as last minute door sales (i dunno okay?), therefore they make $160 out of one ticket and you have lost $80.
Yeah probably looking in a bit deep but you know, people are greedy.

Nice work you got it early, I wish i could have as well, thats the only thing i got missing that & the Evanescence EP tho for any1 to have that is near impossible
I doubt they'd play anywhere but auckland tho, & remember the R18 thing is New Zealand law not St James law
That's the stupidest law I've ever heard. This is just like that time in school where they made me take a technology subject because it was "law". What a waste of time that was. I hate New Zealand. Amy! Ring up and tell them you don't want the concert R18 anymore! Please?

From what Hillary says its only your actual parent, see the people in ticket direct cristchurch don't run it hillary does, so its parents on u not gettin in
What I want to know is why the hell we're getting so much conflicting advice. I know what Hilary said, BUT - As I said, I've spoken to people who when they BOUGHT the tickets from the actual St James, were told there BY THE PEOPLE who sold it to them that that would be fine. So WTF. It would be totally illegal to lie and take your ticket off you at the door, so who's right here? And wtf kind of a law requires you to take your OWN parent? If my parents say I can go with my friend's mother, she's a legal guardian and everything so why would it make a difference? I honestly have no idea what to believe. And another thing - How are they going to check? What, you want me to bring my birth certificate with me? That's ****ing gay. Plus, I don't have one, so stfu.
Edit: Okay, sorry for the language, but I was really annoyed.
They won't take your ticket off you they just won't let you in, Hillary is the one who runs the ticketing for St James so I would believe her over any of the other staff
Pretty much for all you people your best option is to contact Hillary she can sort out what you need

I would if I were you, nothing would be worse than getting there and being refused entry. Plus I think they're really going to be policing the R18 thing from what my mum was told on the phone today when she rang to get an extra ticket (damn the legal guardian rule, but it has to be done). Although IMO all the trouble everyone's been through to get tickets, sort out legal guardians and with the misinformation plus the travelling some of you are doing (kudos to you guys!) will make the concert all the more worth it when the night finally arrives. :)
Also, I wouldn't mind a Wellie concert or something but I can't see that happening. Maybe next time, Ev tour organisers?

I am a huge fan of Evanescence, but I've been totally ripped apart inside, knowing that I can't go to this concert.
R18? Wtf?
I don't understand why this concert has been made R18. It's letting alot of fans down, and we don't know when or if we'll get a chance to see them in concert. Evanescence have alot of young fans too.
Why are St James selling alcohol on this night? Why not at AFI, HIM etc? Why CAN'T it be All Ages like AFI etc? This sounds really selfish of me for those people who want to drink, but I'm just extremely pissed off. Is it just to make more money? To get tickets to sell out faster? If it is, I don't see the point in it. Evanescence are huge worldwide. Huge in New Zealand. And please, think about the children. Life is not just about money damnit.
I can't go because my parents aren't lovers of music. My mum can't walk properly. My dad has work and is too fragile. There's no way for me to go. If we were able to take ANYONE over 18, it might have losened my anger a bit, but limiting it to only your parents or legal guardian, thats just pretty much impossble in my situation. I know its the law and all, but its just stupid. Change the damn age restrictions and we wouldn't need to deal with all this.
I find it extremely unfair that all the other shows that Evanescence have held in other countries were All Ages. A 6 year old could have gone, and here I am, a 16 year old teenager in New Zealand, unable to go. For goodness sake. Besides, its not like we can choose when we'd like to be born.
I JUST WANT THAT FRIGGIN R18 RULE TO BURN AND DIE.

I'm with you Sarah. I think it's unfair too. Ridiculously so. But, alas, there's not a lot we can do to change it.
Just be thankful that you haven't already got tickets with the intention to go with someone else's parents. To the Mezaninne. That's sold out. And non-exchangeable/refundable.
Edit: Never mind, I managed to persuade my mum to take me! :)

This should be an all ages gig, coz HELLO! The Big Day Out is only R15 and a heck of alot more dangerous alcohol and drugs wise. I mean, u go into the loos and theres used IV needles everywhere. Disgusting.
Im just really aggrivated that they have mucked us all around so much and werent clear from the word go that parent or legal guardian actually means only ur parent. Legal guardian covers many things.
Lets all look at it in a positive light!
If they had raised the drinking age back to 21, this would be an R21 concert.
And that would suck big time.
Imagine a 20 year old having to go to their parents, "Oh, mum, dad, im not old enuff to go to this concert coz they will be selling alcohol. Can one of you take me?"
Nightmare i tell you.

Or they could make it easy have it like in australia 18+ gigs where u have to be 18 to go no matter what or then ur all ages gigs, so there is no hassles or confusion
Actually with BDO its 15+ over Australia & NZ, but the law for that is different because the Bar areas are sparate areas u need to show ID for, the only reason its R15 is coz well who would want some1 under 15 going alone to BDO

To be honest I think making it 18+ and minors not being allowed at all is extremely unfair and stupid. I'd rather it this way, however annoying it is. Plus, the bars in the St James are kinda separate too.. I mean, you can't drink while you're at your seats, so isn't that the same principle? NZ law is just idiotic in general. But I agree with you Emma - Being 20 & having to have a parent accompany you would suck! :p

I understand your frustration i'm 16 too and after a long debate with my mum she finally agreed to come with me. I was talking to Ben from St james and he said that it was all the promoters idea to target a 18+ audience. obviously the promoters don't know who listens to evanescence. Yeah, nothing we can do I guess... except sulk, complain and cry.
I mean, to know that I can't see my favourite band (and idol) perform live, JUST BECAUSE OF MY AGE, its really upsetting, and pisses the hell out of me. I couldn't go last time either, for the same reason.
Kelly, Silenced, I am extremely jealous of you both. Heck, I'm jealous of everyone whose going. I hope you have fun. :)
About the promoters idea for the R18 thing, wow. They obviously didn't do their homework.
Emma, your comment about the 20 year old made me giggle. Yeah, the legal guardian thing was really unclear at first, and I was just about to buy tickets, thinking that I could go with a person whose over 18. But then I read the posts here.
Sure, we may love the R18 shows when the time comes. But the fact is that this show is not neccessarily supposed to be an R18 event. Most of the shows they did around the world were All Ages (if the information I've been given is correct). So why make this one any different?
Kelly, you should be able to get in without your birth certificate. Afterall, you are going with your mother. It's not a lie.
I just hope that this isn't the last time that Evanescence comes to New Zealand. And if they do come again, I'll hopefully be old enough. Stuff that, I hope there is no age limit.
And I hope they have a signing event, so that I (and the other teenage fans) have a chance to meet them.

I seem to be the only one. muahahahah. It's framed on my wall.

yes i got an original origin too...i found it on ebay two years ago!

*hyperventilates* If they opened for Ev here, my life would be complete. Shame I've heard so late otherwise I'd actually have wagged school and gone to Aussie to see this.
On the Shihad website (http://shihad.com/), it doesn't look like they're playing anything else on the days of the Auckland concerts, but on either side of the Auckland dates all the concerts they're playing are in Australia, so they may not come over for such a short time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, though.
2/21/2007 St. James Aukland, NZ
Yes, fantastic place, Aukland is. :p At least they've added it now.
Also, any suggestions as to what time it would be good to line up outside the St James on the night of the concert if I want to get a relatively good spot in the stalls?

Hell yeah, oh wow, if they opened for Ev.. That would just totally rock. I wanted to do the same thing, with Aussie.. However, I'm so poor right now it's not funny. I mean, it was for a while, but now it's just depressing.

I said that.
I don't know if they're going to check ID's. But, if you can't sell them in time, go with someone over 18 and just hope for the best. I don't know how strict they're actually going to be, so..
But it'd probably be a safer bet to go with your parents, if possible.

i reckon a small venue will be awesome though cos you can soak up the atmosphere-and it'll be a more intimate relaxed setting...but going crazy in an arena can't be topped-but still its an experience.

mknell, that's really cool - Congrats. If I were old enough to drink I'd be jealous, but since I'm not.. Anyway, you must come on here after tonight and tell us how it goes meeting/drinking with them and everything, I'll do the same if I get to meet them (here's hoping!) :)

Oh wow, that's awesome! Details!?
And holy crap, that was the most awesome night EVER. Amy was absolutely flawless, and John, Tim, Terry and Rocky were perfect! I was going absolutely nuts, I stood up in a few songs but my friend's parents kept telling me to sit down.. Didn't stop me rocking out! Haha! I felt like such a retard but I had the BEST time!! I was wearing a black dress, though there were quite a few people who were wearing black lol, damn some people looked really ****ing awesome! I would've dressed up if I had the budget but I really don't. I was sitting up in the mezzanine, in the back row of the first level type thing. Next time I'm definately getting stall tickets - I just didn't this time cuz I wasn't sure how I'd cope, I'm quite small - However I reckon I could have, so when they come back next tour (whenever that is! Haha!) watch out! :p How was it from side of stage Marc? I really wanted to stay behind and see if the band would come out but my friend's parents left straight away, I was so gutted. Did they come out, does anyone know? Oh well, that ROCKED!

Oh they read out some of the stuff from the thread on the radio is all. Nothing that big a deal. And I didn't feel the earthquake, but then again it would have been pretty hard to notice with all the noise and stuff. Wow that was awesome.

Man i was in mezzanine, it was so stale up there. i was the only one rocking out, everyone just sat there. when amy lee turned the microphone for everyone to scream "going under" i was like the only one that did on the mezz!!!!!! it was cool cuz i have third row centre seats which was ok. but they said the concert was sold out and i'm not joking half the seats in the mezzanine were empty!!!Man i think amy's voice has gotten better live.

Omg, me too! I was totally rocking out, I stood up a few times like I said, most other people just sat there! I was like wtf dude, this is a concert! Get into it man! I'm soo tired today, I feel like I've been drugged, I was jumping around and stuff so much - I had to stay off school haha, I didn't want to, I really wanted to go and tell everyone how awesome it was but never mind, there's always tomorrow. And yeah, I agree about Amy's voice - I've never seen them live but I've seen recordings where she wasn't as good (but you can't be perfect every time I suppose), but man, last night she was absolutely FLAWLESS. They all were. I had the best time.
Evanescence now officially owns my soul.
Last night's concert was AMAZING! My friend and I managed to get pretty close to the front, at the front of the raised bit behind the mosh pit and you could just tell that everyone around us was having a great time, band included by the looks of things. Redline were alright, in my opinion. Most of their music wasn't really my kind of thing but they were fun to watch. Loved the "practise" Amy Lee too.
I was hoping to stay behind a bit to see if the band would come out, but the St James staff started asking us to leave so we got some merch and went home. My only regret is not being able to go to the previous night's one, but at least I can blame the R18 law for that. But it was definitely the best concert I've ever been to (even though only I've ever been to one other) and probably the best night of my life.
As for the earthquakes, I guess this is what happens when Evanescence performs...
