That sucks. I bet you'll get a ticket from a scalper maybe if you show up early. Don't give up hope.

Yay! Finally, I'm posting again hahaha. I can't afford a subscription to Evboard. Anyways, I am sooooo excited that the concert is only two weeks away!!!

I sadly won't be going.

I wanna go really bad, but the show sold out and we can't afford to go anyway.

EDIT: Hey there Lauren. Nice to see you here.

I'm definitely going! I've had my ticket booked for a month now as a birthday present from my mom. I've got a good-looking Ev T-shirt from Hot Topic that I'll be wearing to it and I downloaded a picture of Amy off the Internet that hopefully will be autographed. This is going to be my first concert, so I can hardly wait!

Oh yeah. This is off-topic, but for those of you in here that already know me from EvBoard, I am the same person who goes by the name of daniel_pendry15 on that board. I just modified my username a little bit on here so that I wouldn't get confused. :)

just Amy? You should get one of the whole band. :)

Yeah, you're right. I used to have a picture of the band as my screensaver that I got off of EvBoard. I can just go back on there, find the source of the picture, and print it out.

Omg guys the concert is less than two weeks away! I can hardly wait! My mother took off that entire day from work and my two friends and I probably won't even go to school. I want to get there as soon as possible so I can check out the venue, find out where the tour buses are going to park, and so I can wait in line long before anyone else. And, I'm gonna be decked out in Evanescence stuff! As for stuff to be autographed, I'm probably gonna bring my copy of The Open Door and maybe a picture or something.

c_isforcookie
10-15-2006, 02:31 PM
I'm going to try and bring my copy of The Open door too, and maybe sneak in a camera. This is so exciting.

Ginger Fish
10-16-2006, 11:33 AM
Getting a camera in should be a piece of cake! It was so easy to sneak my digi into the NY show, and AZ security is way more relaxed than NY security. Plus, I don't know what I should bring to have autographed, the new cd, or a picture, or both? All I know is I'm definitely meeting Amy at this show, and I want a picture with her! :p

c_isforcookie
10-16-2006, 05:18 PM
You should bring both. I want a pic with Amy too :D.

Ginger Fish
10-16-2006, 05:27 PM
Seriosuly, I think if we just stalk the back of the venue/tour bus area long enough, we'll get to meet the band and get pics and autographs! :o

I will definitely be there. I seriously waited by my computer for the moment the tickets went on sale and I got mine. This is the second time I will see them live here in Phoenix and I know it will be great.

I love when they do these small venues. The first time they came to Arizona it was for an event at the Phoenix Zoo but I couldn't go because it was 21 and over only. Then in August of 2003 they came to the Mesa Ampitheatre and I knew I had to go. It's amazing how close I got. So close in fact that Amy decided to take a drink of water and spit it out into the audience, and yes, some of it landed on me.

Does anyone know for a fact if cameras will be allowed in the venue? I was thinking of calling but I haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

How early do you guys plan on getting there?

10-16-2006, 10:05 PM
How early do you guys plan on getting there?

Well, let's see. I get out of school at 1:00 p.m. on Fridays, so I can just ask my mom, who is the person that I'm going with to the concert, to come pick me up from there. I live 3 hours away from Phoenix, so if we left the school at 1:00, I would say that we would be at the venue at 4:30 or so, beause we would have to check into a hotel ahead of time and stop for gas and a bite to eat along the way. I want to get to the theatre much earlier, but I also don't want to miss school because of my perfect attendence record, and waiting in the long line for hours on end will get very boring for me.

usfaction
10-16-2006, 10:18 PM
I plan on getting there anywhere between 1 and 2. I'm just that desperate to be up close and center. I live about 15 minutes away so I don't have to plan much.

At least the wheather isn't so bad anymore. Maybe by then it'll be a bit cool during the afternoon. Even then, I don't care how hot it is. I'd wait in line for a day if that's what I have to do.

I'll just make sure my iPod is completely charged. And I've got plenty of Evanescence songs to help me pass the time.

does anyone know how the theatre looks?

10-20-2006, 04:32 PM
I can't believe that next Friday I will actually be seeing my favorite band live!!!! I could not imagine this ever happening 3 years ago. My anticipation for the concert builds more and more as each day progresses and the sound of TOD gets better every time I listen to it. It is going to be extremely hard for me to get through this week without letting out all of my excitement because I know that the week will be the best of my life. You rock, Ev and I know that you will put on a show for the ages in Phoenix!!!!

Ok, well, sorry again for not posting for quite some time. It seems that I've missed all kinds of conversation haha. Guess I should be more active in the thread lol. But anyways...

This is what the itinerary for October 27th is looking like for me. My mother, my sister, my two friends, and I are all missing work/school to leave to Phoenix. Some of you are talking about getting there around 1-2pm (usfaction) or 4-4:30pm (Daniel_P_16) but as for me, I'm gonna be getting to the venue in the morning, like around 10am or something.

Yes, I know that sounds crazy since, like Daniel_P_16 has mentioned, waiting in a long line will be boring. However, the up side of getting there that early is that I will definitely be able to get front and center of the stage. Now, the other reason why I'm going that early is so I can make the necessary preparations to ensure that I get autographs from the band members. I plan on walking around and scoping out the venue to see where the tour buses are gonna be parked and where Evanescence is going to be entering the building. Also, I hope that if I get there early, the band will recognize my dedication and come over before the concert starts to sign autographs lol.

And hey, not to sound like a mod, but I saw that someone *cough usfaction cough* (lol jk) double-posted. I am pretty sure that the same rules apply here as to Evboard so I just wanna remind you guys. I hope I don't sound bossy but I just wanna keep us outta trouble :)

Also, I hope that if I get there early, the band will recognize my dedication and come over before the concert starts to sign autographs lol.

That would be cool if the band saw your dedication before the concert and came over to give you an autograph before they went on to everyone else. I'm sure that would make you feel very special.

I hope that there is not an extremely long line of people waiting in line by the time I get there because I feel like my chances of the band signing something are quite good based on what I've read from other concertgoers to this point. Also, I promised Cavercheer03 on EvBoard that I would get an autograph for her since she can't make it to the concert.

Yeah, I wanna get some stuff signed for other people too. However, you should remember that EVERYONE will be crowded around Amy so if you can just get one autograph, keep it for yourself. Don't worry about anyone else. I mean, it's unfortunate she can't make it to the concert but you shouldn't make it your obligation to get something for her.

lol I sound like a bitch don't I?

Yeah, you do sound like a bitch a little bit (sorry!:( ), but you are also right. I know that there are going to be people crowded around Amy like a swarm of bees, so I should not make it my obligation to get something signed for someone else, no matter whether I promised them I would or not. This could potentially be the only time I get to meet Amy or any of the other band members in person and I want to come away with a lasting memory of the meeting, so if I told her that I wanted an autograph from her for someone else, it is going to make her assume I don't want one for myself and then I will be very upset because I knew I had just blown a huge opportunity to have something permamamently commemorating the meeting and the concert. I will just tell Cavercheer03 that I will not get an autograh for her because I was told otherwise by another board member and I know that the band will probably sign no more than one autograh per person because it will hold up the line. I hate doing that because I am not one to break promises, but it has to be done.

Omg, you totally missed my point. I wasn't telling you to not try to get an autograph for her. I was just suggesting that you not make it your obligation, cause I have a friend I wanna get an autograph for too. However, it should be only fair that every fan at the concert get an opportunity to get an autograph, picture, or whatever. But if you can get something signed for Cavercheer03 then that's great.

You totally missed my point and that kinda irritates me.

OK, you're right, and I am sorry. I guess I missed your point because it just takes me a while to understand things sometimes or I jumped to a conclusion too quickly without processing what you had to say through my mind first. It is fair that every fan should get an opportunity to get an autograph from the band at the concert, especially if it could be the last time they see that band for a while. My main plan will be to get an autograph for myself from Amy but I will also try to put forth an attempt to get one for Cavercheer03, as well. I don't think it will work because, as I said before, the band probably doesn't want to sign more than one or two autographs per person because it will hold up the line, but at least I can say I tried. I told her ahead of time what the possibilities were, so she will understand if I wasn't able to get one for her.

Man, I hate it when I misintepret what someone else says because it always gets that person mad at me and I hate it when a person is like that toward me, especially with my personality.

Well, from what I've read from other concert-goers, if you stick around waaaaay after everyone starts to leave, then you'll get more personal time with the band. I'm gonna do that, no matter how long it'll take or how cold it might be.

Man, I hate it when I misintepret what someone else says because it always gets that person mad at me and I hate it when a person is like that toward me, especially with my personality.

It's ok, don't sweat it. I'm not mad at you... I just didnt want Cavercheer03 to think I was a bitch because I was suggesting that to you.

I'll have to see how tired my mom and I both are after the concert before I can decide to stick around well after everyone has left and have my personal time with the band. Another thing is that we have to bring my grandmother along with us to Phoenix because my mom has to take care of her continously with her age and all the problems she has mentally and physically. She will stay behind at the hotel, but I don't think my mom will feel very comfortable about wanting to leave her there by herself for more than 2 hours in case an accident happened, which is always a risk. This whole thing is just something we have to play by ear right now.

I sent you a PM saying that I am very interested in that offer! I'm going with no one except my mom, and I am a very shy and reserved person, so my whole goal at this concert is to try to meet as many new people as I can so that I can break out of that shell and get some more friends. I don't know how many people will or have followed up on this offer, but I really hope it is not too many because I'm anxious to meet you and the other two friends that I have on this board probably will not be able to meet me at the concert because they are going with other friends and are forbidden to meet people they don't know, anyway, because of what their parents said when they mentioned the idea in the first place.

This is huge for me 'cause I've been a serious fan for like 4 years but I missed them the last time they came to Phx..actually Mesa...so this my first Ev concert. It's gonna be me, my cousin, my sister, her friend, and possibly my one of MY friends (yeah heh heh I'm responsible for all of them being fans heh heh). hey head over to my myspace (myspace.com/silvertangerine) and say hello, maybe I'll see you all there. :)

One night left!!! By this time tomorrow, we will be preparing to rock our socks off! I am so excited that I don't believe I will be able to concentrate on the two tests I have in school tomorrow because I will be ready to scream, "I GET TO SEE EVANESCNECE LIVE TONIGHT!" at any second. Tomorrow is also the last football game at my school and I will be saddened that I am forced to miss it, but it will be well worth it if the concert turns out to be the best thing that has ever happened in my life, which I KNOW it will. This will probably be the last time I post in here tonight and then I will head up to Phoenix after I get out of school at 1:00, so I hope I can get to know a lot of you at the festivities. If you want to look for me, I'll be wearing a black T-shirt with 'Evanescence - The Open Door" on it and blue jeans and I will arrive around 4:30 or 5:00 at the earliest.

LaurenM
10-27-2006, 02:49 PM
I MIGHT go tonight..if my sister can get a ticket. But the thing is, I can't print a name tag, and i'll be all alone. I probably won't be there until after 6pm. So....I guess I'll look for you guys who have name tags. :(

Umm, I think they may have opened up more seats, because Celeb Theater sent me a notice a couple of days ago telling me there were still Ev tix available, its worth checking out.

If not, I know 2 people who will be at the show tonight scalping 2 extra tickets...so, even if you don't have ticket in hand, go down there, I'm sure someone will have tix they're trying to get rid of.

The show was AMAZING!!! It didn't hit me until I got home just what a great experience it was. I did get to see Amy, John, Tim, and Rocky when they came out but sadly didnt get that many autographs. I did get Rocky's however, which is awesome. I took a few pictures inside but the fog made them come out not too good. Revelation Theory was great but it's more than obvious I was there to see Evanescence, and they rocked it.

I can't wait to see them again. Hopefully if they come back and do arenas theyll come back here.

Yep, we waited after the show. Honestly, it was pretty fun! Me and my girl got to talk to a bunch of other crazy Ev fans! We probably waited about a half hour, hour. And people would come out one by one and sign autographs and such. There weren't as many people as I expected to be waiting after the show, but there was probably about 40 of us. I'm sorry your friend wanted to go home, if I were you, I would have told them to take a cab. ;)

Yeah, I don't know how early you were there but I was one of the people who got to do the meet and greet through the contest that the radio station was doing. So I had already met them that day. There were 3 of us though and one of us didn't get to go in, and she was the one who wanted to go home so I wanted to kinda do what she wanted because I felt bad. I would have stayed otherwise and met them again.

Here is one I took with my phone so its HORRIBLE quality blown up but on my phone I'm like this is a rockin photo. Amy doing her signature fist pump. I had great seats, like 10 feet from the stage.

Seriously, we didn't have to wait long at all. And like I said, the wait was fun because it was nice to talk to fans, and everyone was just so pumped after the awesome concert. There were some people I really wish I could have gotten email addys from but didn't even think of it, oh well.

I have pictures, but I don't want to post them because I know people will remove the watermarks and steal them, so I'm only going to post the picture I took with Terry. :o

WOW!!!! I just absolutely had the time of my life last night!!! The entire time Ev was performing, I did not sit down even once!!! The guys were amazing and Amy just absolutely blew me away with her voice. I could understand what she was singing perfectly every time even though there was always a constant screaming in my ear and the fact that I was sitting in the middle of the theatre. The music has never sounded any better. I wish they would have performed Cloud Nine and Snow White Queen because those would have absolutely rocked out, but I was not at all dissapointed at all atany moment. I even sang at the top of my lungs to all of the songs until my voice was hoarse. Revelation Theory was not half-bad either, but I didn't like all the times they used the word "****." I do not like cuss words in any kind of music, a big reason why I picked Ev as my favorite band. Then, after the show ended at around 10:15 or so, I walked out to the back with my mom to where the equipment was being loaded and waited to see if I could get an autograph. I stood in the same spot for 45 minutes, but evenually my legs started getting tired. I did see Terry, Rocky, and Tim come out every so often, but they did not look to be in the mood for autographs. I still had high hopes that I would end up getting one, but my mom was getting so tired, so she divised a plan for us to walk all the way back to our car, get into it, and drive all the way back to the theatre and try again because at this point, the entire place was nearly deserted except fro the fans waiting patiently. I am so ecstatic that we decided to go back, too, because, just as we got there, Amy stuck her head out of the side of the building. There was an immediate uproar of cheers and screams and everybody, including me, started screaming "AMY!!!" simultaneously. However, she was talking on a cell phone at that point, so she dissapeared back inside again for about 5 minutes so she could finish her call. A few minutes later, John emerged for the first time and I screamed "JOHN!!" to try and get his attention but I don't think he heard me because he began walking toward the trucks. I heard someone say "YOU F***IN" ROCK, JOHN!" before he dissapeared out of sight altogether. Less than 2-and-a-half minutes later, Amy emerged again. At first, I could not see her come out because I was at the back of the line. She had her Sharpie with her this second time, too, and immediately she began signing autographs. She did it in a fast amount of time, as well, so in less than 5 minutes, I had reached her. I was so excited at that point that I thought I was just going to fall over and faint. Surprisingly, however, I did not. Instead, I immediately put my arms out and she leaned over the railing and gave me a nice hug and I said, "You guys were great tonight." I then handed her my three pictures and she signed not just one but all THREE!!! As she took a quick glance at the one picture of the band I had with me, she looked right at Tim and said "Look at Tim!" with a small little chuckle in relation to the expression on his face. After she had finished signing the pictures, she gave them back to me and I leaned back over the railing again, gave her another hug, and said "Pleasure seeing you guys tonight" and she responded with "Thank you. We had a great time." Then, I turned around and walked away because it was so late and I did not want to take up anymore of her time.

So, all in all, it was a flawless and forever memorbale night for me. As I said, I expected to get only one autograph, but instead I got three, which was more than I expected. And, best of all, as I also said, I briefly met Amy and recieved two hugs. I tell you, for those of you who didn't get the opportunity to meet her, she is just the kindest and gentlest person you will ever meet. The only thing that was bad about the meeting was that my mom did not have a camera, so she could not take a picture of me hugging Amy:(. But, you know, at least I got the opportunity in the first place because I really did not think I was going to with the amount of time the band was taking.

Before I go, I would love to thank God for giving me the chance to meet my favorite band and experience such an awesome concert and Amy for being so loyal and gentle to her fans, giving me three autographs instead of just one, and making October 27, 2006 a night I will never forget. I know love you and John, Terry, Rocky, and Tim forever because of this memorable night! (Wow, that was a long post, LOL!)

I was fifth row, on the side where they kept the piano, but I was pretty damn close to the center, because I got isle seat. I wanted to be in the pit but after waiting in line since 2 in the afternoon I wanted an opportunity to sit.

I had an amazing seat for viewing but not so great for taking pictures.

I did however get a picture of the new member of the band. I was waiting in back of the theater when he emerged with a few other people, trying to get to the buses, and he actually had a small run-in with a cactus, which was kinda funny.

All in all it was a great show and I can't wait to see them again.

That story is so cool!! I can just imagine sitting right where you were and almost being able to reach all the way out and touch Amy's hand. I still had a good view from where I was sitting, but yours was way better!

Did you happen to get any autographs by any chance? I would also really like to see the picture you got with Tim!

Well, my fears of Amy not singing very well in public (which were based only on the Anywhere But Home concert DVD) have been officially laid to rest. Last night's concert was absolutely amazing. She sang so incredibly well and seriously had the entire audience captivated. Even the people who went with us who don't particularly care for Evanescence couldn't take their eyes off her.
My only complaint was that their part of the show was unexpectedly short. They performed 13 songs, and as I'd expected, Hello and The Last Song I'm Wasting on You were not included. They did eight songs from The Open Door and five from Fallen, including "My Immortal" as an encore.

The opening act, Revelation Theory, was great, too. I thought they were awesome. I can tell you that if I just heard them on the radio or something, I wouldn't like them, because I just don't get into that music. But seeing them for the first time in person just made them a little more likable. :) Yes, the lead singer's shirt came off, and he's got some awesome tattoos, that's for sure.

Out of the six of us, my friend May and I stuck around after the show, which ended at around 10:30 or so. We waited around by their tour bus to try to get autographs. We sat there for about an hour and a half, by which point, the theater had emptied, except for all the people in the meet and greet. One of the crew guys finally took our CD's and had them signed by Amy (sucks that we didn't actually get to meet her). He thought that'd be good enough for us. We sat there until about 1:30 in the morning, when we saw Terry get off the bus and start talking to that crew guy. We walked over there and asked him for his autograph. Terry's incredibly nice, and very shy. :) He obliged, signed our CD covers and concert tickets, and we hung out and talked with him for another half hour or so. We finally left around 2am.

So, next time around we'll have to try even harder for the whole band's signatures... :)

I don't get it, Amy sounded just as amazing on the DVD as she does at any other live performance.

I didn't get a picture with Tim, just a picture of him. I guess the flash of my camera was too bright because he came out with his eyes closed. I would've stood in the pit but I didn't get there soon enough so I settled for a seat, which wasn't bad at all. My feet were also really sore so I was glad to be able to sit every now and then. I'll post the picture of Tim later, but for now here's this one.

P.S.
Oh, and I got only one autograph, Rocky's. I'm not worried or disappointed at all that I didn't get anyone elses autograph, cause I know that any other time they come to Phoenix, I will be there.

That was such a fun night!! My sister and I were standing pretty close to the front. The only way I can explain it is when they were playing Going Under and Amy was signaling for us to yell "GOING UNDERRR!!!" she pointed in the area I was standing, it was awesome but there was a guy who worked there, he had spiky hair, and he was in the way. There were people who were telling him to move but he wouldn't. Other than that it was an awesome night, the best night I've ever had.
After the concert we went areound to where the buses were and waited there for a long time. After about 30 minutes Terry came out and signed some stuff. My sister and I both got autographs. And about 10-20 minutes later Amy came out. She signed the things my sister and I had. I was the second person she gave a hug to, and she hugged my sister afterwards.

Evanescence show lacks connection

It was sort of hard to believe Amy Lee when she told the Celebrity Theatre audience Friday night, "I think this is our favorite stop on the tour so far." Judging from the hecklers who booed her, it probably wasn't the most pleasant experience.

Before any hateration, though, rock band Revelation Theory played. It's sort of interesting they were back at the Celebrity Theatre, since they opened up for Lee's ex-boyfriend Shaun Morgan's band Seether in June.

Once again, the audience sang along and really got into Revelation Theory's set. They did a good job at pumping up the crowd for the main attraction.

Lee and four other guys, a.k.a. Evanescence, performed songs from their 2003 album Fallen, which spawned two Grammy wins, and from their recently-released sophomore effort, The Open Door. Lee looked gorgeous in a black corset, raggedy ballerina skirt, red and black striped tights and black boots, and the rest of the band kept the goth opera theme going by wearing black themselves.

That was about the only thing that united the group, though. Throughout the set, Lee pretty much ignored the rest of the guys. It was like she was in her own world, and they were just trying to get in.

While she was performing, Lee did a lot of fist pumping and emotional crouching, trying her best to connect with the audience, many of who, before the show, were upset about the seating arrangement. It was the band's decision not to have the seating in the round, and it seemed like the show was over-sold because people were forced to sit behind the stage and stand in the aisles.

Lee sounded amazing, though, even though it seemed like her vocal levels were lower than the instruments surrounding her. She reached all those high notes without wavering.

After singing many of their hits, including "Going Under," "Call Me When You're Sober" (which Lee had no introduction to) and "Bring Me to Life," the band ran off stage. The crowd started to chant for Amy, not the band, and she ran back out to play "My Immortal." Then the band ended the show with the title track off their new disc.

Their set was only about an hour, and while it seemed like they played a lot of songs, the short time could probably be attributed to Lee's lack of banter with the fans. She kept saying, "This is great," and "This is cool," but she failed to introduce her whole band or explain any of the songs--two things you typically see in concerts.

Still, the lighting and presentation was awesome, and the goth-filled crowd actually smiled throughout the night.

If you click the link below, there are about 12 pictures from the show:

Whoa, Whoa, wait a minute!
Was this person at the same show as all of us??
I heard not one complaint of the venue or its set up.
And the crowd completely got into Ev, whether that
person believes so or not. That reviewer should have
went to the show in NY at the Hammerstein. Then
they would have a valid show to complain about.
Hell, even the bassist from RT was telling my friend
that the NY and LA crowds are always awful, and
they enjoy playing "less popular" cities, such as Phoenix,
because they get so much love.

And, ya know, about the band not getting recognized, and
such. That's just the breaks. That's how it is in music, you
identify with a certain band member (usually the singer), and the
rest just kind of, are there. And, after the show, the rest of the
band was getting plenty of love from the fans. People wanted
to meet them just as much as Amy.

Also, about the comment where 2 things every band usually does at a show is introduce the band and explain songs...introducing the band yes, but explaining songs? I've never been to a concert where the band explained songs, this is a concert, not VH1 storytellers.

Anyway, don't buy into this article. The show was amazing, the crowd was showing both bands love, and the bands were showing the audience love. Everyone was in to it, and you can ask any Ev fan that went that night, it was perfect!

PS: Yeah, no one booed Amy. The opening band got booed a bit (a very little bit), but not Ev!

Ok, that article made me a little irritated, so you can guess I have quite a bit to comment on.

First of all, I heard absolutely NO ONE boo Amy. Is this journalist deaf or something?!

Second of all, I don't understand what he means by Amy ignoring the rest of the band. Is he talking about onstage or what? If he is, then that's a little ridiculous because Amy is busy singing and trying to reach out to her fans (literally lol). Any is nothing but a sweet, genuine person and I know she wouldnt ignore the guys on purpose.

Third of all, the journalist shouldn't focus the quality of the performance on how pissed off people were with the seating arrangements. Fans were well aware when they bought the tickets that it was general admission so they should've made some kind of arrangements to get better seating. My friends and I did that - we went to the venue at 1:30 that afternoon and waited so we could be in the front... and we were!

Fourth of all, the journalist is wrong about Amy introducing the band. She told everyone to applaud for Revelation Theory and they did. Amy also introduced the new bassist Tim McCord and that is all she should have needed to do. Any Evanescence-obsessed fan would know who the band members are so why should they need to be informed? And also, the songs don't need explanation. Again, any Ev fan would have read into the songs and know what it's about and what Amy was trying to get across.

Overall, the article sucked! The journalist sounded like they didn't go to the same concert as the rest of us because I thought that the entire night was FLAWLESS!!! I got four autographs and pictures with three of the band members. But they were right about two things - Amy looked gorgeous in her outfit and her voice sounded amazing.

I agree with everything both of you said. I was the one who found this article on the web and I was not at all impressed with it when I first saw it. Even though I didn't say it at the time, this is one of the worst reviews I have ever read. Everybody, including me, was on their feet for the entire performance and, like you observed, paperflowers15, I didn't hear a single boo at any one time. In fact, as soon as Amy began to do her thing on the opening song Sweet Sacrifice, everyone around me started to scream and didn't let up until the performance had ended. I was singing loud enough that my voice was very hoarse at the end, everyone else around me knew the words to every song and were singing with incredible enthusiasm and a lot of emotion, even my mom, who is not in any way an Ev fan, was interested in the performance and said to me afterward that she loved Amy's vocal range and was amazed at her enthusiasm and all-around musical talent. I was even trying to imitate what Amy was doing up on stage by jumping up and down at my seat and swinging my arms outward to show how ecstatic I was and how much I love the band. Also, she was still willing to go outside and give her waiting fans as many autographs and hugs as she could after the concert. They may have had to wait out there for an hour, but the wait turned out to be well worth it for me by the time Amy emerged because I ended up getting three signatures from her and had the opportunity to give her a few words of encouragement of how much I enjoyed the performance. Sure, I would have liked a picture with her, but the autographs and the hugs were what I had set off to get in the first place, so I have nothing to compalin about. Amy could have easily ignored us and just left because she was so tired, but she didn't. That shows me she has a lot of character and appreciates the fans listening to the music. Even the guys wandered in front of where we all were standing a few different times and the fans were just as eager to get something from them as they were from Amy because they yelled at the guys to try and get their attention a few times. Just look at what you experienced from that, paperflowers15. You ended up getting four autographs and three pictures by the end of the night from three of the band members. That tells me that you have as much of a love for the guys as you do for Amy. I even yelled at John at one time to try and get his attention and, of the three pictures that I got autographed, one of them was of the whole band posing together. If I didn't care about the guys, all of my pictures would have been of Amy.

This article tells me that the person who reviews a concert or an album does not take the time to listen to the album an attend the concert before they come to a final conclusion in their review. I mean, the title of that article "Evanescence show lacks conncection" is the most false title I have ever seen in my life. You can tell from my description and the descriptions that both of you guys put forth that Amy and the rest of the band has a very deep connection with all of their fans. If they didn't have that, none of us would have been ebthusiastic about the performance or would have even gotten the opportunities to get autographs, pictures or hugs. I have never known any group of people to be more friendly or loyal to their fans than Evanescence was on Friday night. The entire band has some incredible personalities, especially Amy, and that is why I love them so much.

Well, here's a good one for you guys. A couple of facts were off, but THIS review is glowing :)

After Evanescence (music)'s show Friday (10/27) at Phoenix's Celebrity Theatre, it was easy to see why the band has become one of rock's top acts. Singer Amy Lee, diminutive and graceful, has a voice that reaches heights heard primarily from overly dramatic R&B singers, but it compliments her band's complex songs.

Lee's vocals during the 90-minute set were so perfect that several in the audience questioned if she was actually singing. But she clearly was, as evidenced by the subtle deep breaths she took in between the intermittent headbanging and ballet-like dance moves that accompanied some of her most dramatic lyrics.

Lee may have had her heart broken by Seether's Shaun Morgan, as she revealed on the song "Call Me When You're Sober," but she channeled that pain into an aggressive, low-tech set full of soul-searching songs.

Kicking off with "Weight of the World," from the once-No. 1 album "The Open Door," Lee, dressed in a lace-like skirt, shorts, red-and-black striped tights, boots, and a tank top, pounded her fist in the air and swung around her long, black hair. She belted out a vocal solo during the song that proved she's one of the best singers among her peers, and she arched her back and gracefully lifted her arm like a ballerina when the song ended.

Perhaps the most striking part of the show was Lee's solo rendition of "Lithium," during which she played the piano without her band, her hair tied in a ponytail. The only downside of the performance was the fans who shouted "I love you Amy" or "Go for it" during the song.

A machine-gun drum solo courtesy Rocky Gray introduced "Call Me When You're Sober," and the rendition was dead-on, CD perfect. Besides the drum intro, the only change to the original--improvisation was rare during this show--was that the song did not end with Lee singing "I've made up your mind." The punch of guitarists Terry Balsamo and John LeCompt, as well as new bassist Tim McCord and Gray, served up a reprieve and ended the song.

The searing guitars of "Bring Me to Life" cut through the audience's screaming in thanks for "Call Me When You're Sober." An enthused Lee spun in circles as the audience sang Paul McCoy of 12 Stones' vocal parts on the breakthrough single, until the rap portion, through which LeCompt aptly sang and growled--better than the original.

The Celebrity Theatre, which celebrated its 400th show with Evanescence, is an in-the-round venue, but used a three-quarter format for the performance. An overselling of tickets left many patrons sitting in seats alongside the stage between the drummer and the backdrop. Lee made the best of the situation, climbing around one of two pianos to reach out to the audience. During other parts of the songs, she oscillated between playing portions on the piano and singing the chorus at center stage. "This stage is very unusual," she told the crowd. "So I'm doing my best to work all of you". The effervescent singer is a true show-woman, and Evanescence is primed and ready for arenas.

New York-based Revelation Theory offered a powerful, 40-minute opening set. Future stars in their own right, the rockers spent their time pushing songs from their album "Truth is Currency" and its single "Slowburn." To prove his band's mettle, singer Rich Luzzi canvassed the pre-show entrance line with a portable CD player in hand, offering fans a chance to listen to "Truth is Currency."

Now that article is much better. These reviewers actually saw the show and emphasized most of the same points we were arguing about. This is what I would call a "very professional" review because it is actually stating what really happened at the festivites and not falsifying the entire story, like the other one was. I do have one interesting question about this review though: Why would they consider fans screaming "I love you Amy" or "Go for it" duing a performance a downside? I wouldn't mind that in any way because it is showing support for the band.

I think that he meant "Good Enough," firstly...and I agree. It's just Amy and the piano; it's quiet and soft, and I would want people to either sing along or listen, not shout OMGAH I LOVE U AMYYYY. It's kind of disrespectful, I think...like, you're obviously not really LISTENING if you're like 'okay i can be heard now...I LOVE YOU AMY OMG'.

That's kind of how I see it, anyway. But that one concert where someone said "YES YOU ARE" when Amy sang "Am I good enough for you to love me too" was funny... Haha. Do you see what I mean though?

Good question. Maybe it's because it disrupts the dramatic tone that Amy was trying to set when she was performing songs like Lithium, Good Enough, and My Immortal. Haha I actually found it funny when one fan screamed "Yeah, you're good enough!" to Amy while she was performing Good Enough lol.

Yes, I do. Now that I think about it, having someone constantly say "OMG, I LOVE YOU, AMY" would be disrespectful. I mean, the whole point of being at the concert in the first place is to actually listen to the band perform and sing along if you hear something you recognize. If something that is very obvious to everybody else is being yelled continously, it would drown out the vocals and be very distracting.

Wow, that sounds awesome! I'm really glad that you ended up meeting Amy cause I thought that it was kind of messed up for Tim to lie to Evanescence's most dedicated fans. But hey, you got to meet her and Terry so it doesn't really matter lol. I still wish Will was with Evanescence though. I loved him on the Anywhere But Home DVD and it would've been awesome to meet him!

And hey, I did send you a friend request so add me! You'll see that the pic of me and John is my default pic lol! :p

I remember when Amy said that the stage was unusual and she's trying to work all of us...yeah.

And my dad was sitting WAY in the back, and he said he fell asleep during one of the piano songs, probably Good Enough...what a waste of a ticket.

I tell you what, I have never seen anyone grin as hard or as wide as you are in this picture! Tim's facial expression is also quite hilarious, LOL. I would think he would be a little more excited to meet an obsessed fan who he gave his autograph to than he shows in the picture, but obviously not.

Yeah, we are the people from Tucson and we got kinda worried bout you guys because Tim lied and said that Amy wasnt coming around that backside.

Why would Tim lie like that to his waiting fans? If you ask me, that would be very disloyal. I don't think I would have liked him that much if he had done that to me.

Yeah, Tim lied, but I didn't care. As
soon as he came over and everyone asked him where
Amy was going to be, and he told us...me and my friend
were like "ok, lets go!" to each other, and he was like
"What am i chopped liver"? So, i'm willing to guess it
gets on the guys nerves when fans ask for Amy and
all care about Amy and stuff. And I'm glad Tims in the
band and all, but I really wanted to meet Amy the most
out of any Ev member. Shes the only original member left, she's
a great songwriter, a great singer, a talented pianist, etc.
I wanted to meet everyone, but oh well, next show!

Hey, I wanted to meet everyone in the band too because I am so dedicated to the music, but I was more than happy with my brief encounter with Amy. I mean, who wouldn't be? You hit the nail on the head with all the points you brought up on her, but she is also mainly the only person that is ever talked about in the band, meaning she takes up almost all of the spotlight, people know what her personality is like and essentially every single fact about her known to man, she is what makes everyone popular with the music to begin with because of her voice, her lyrics, etc. Everyone is always going to strive to meet the member who is the most well-known in the band and they know there are going to be other opportunities to meet everyone else, as you said, so why not take it one step at a time?

Also, don't mind me saying this, but I have noticed that Tim seems to be used to getting the attention in years past and therefore feels a little bit left out with Ev.

Haha yeah I remember that too. But her working the entire stage wasn't a problem for me really because I was right in the pit area so I could see Amy wherever she went. But I was anxiously awaiting the part in "Going Under" when she held the mic out to the audience and everyone screamed "I'm going under!" And hey, that's pretty funny that your dad fell asleep. I guess it's cause Amy's voice is so soft and so soothing during those slow songs. Haha, I actually burnt a CD with all of Ev's slow songs that I listen to every night to help me fall asleep faster :p

I tell you what, I have never seen anyone grin as hard or as wide as you are in this picture! Tim's facial expression is also quite hilarious, LOL. I would think he would be a little more excited to meet an obsessed fan who he gave his autograph to than he shows in the picture, but obviously not.

lol well, I was standing next to a member of Evanescence! How hard do you think I was supposed to grin?! lol but it's all good. Tim is still new and I didn't really expect him to be acquainted with die-hard Ev fans that have been in love with the band for about three years.

Maybe he was mistaken?? Just because he got it wrong doesn't mean he lied to her.

No, he wasn't mistaken. I ran over to where he was pointing just to check before my friends and I headed over to that area and when I came back, my friends told me that Tim said he had lied. Like Ginger Fish said, it probably does get on the guys' nerves when fans ask for Amy and not pay them any attention, and I understand that. It would bug me too. Even though Amy is the lead singer, she isn't the only one (haha song title) who writes the songs and everything. And to tell you the truth, that actually bothers me too. After Ginger Fish and her friend left, I was still waiting around with my friends and some people kept saying, "Where's Amy?" and "All I wanna do is meet Amy." I felt like snapping at them and saying, "You know, Amy's not the entire band." But oh well, that's just me lol.

And I'm glad Tims in the

Yeah, even though I wanted to meet the rest of the band just as much, I would've cried if I didn't get to meet Amy. Like Ginger Fish said, fans are most likely to identify with the lead singer and the rest are just kind of there. I love John, Rocky, Terry, and Tim equally but Amy stands out way more by far! But I'm happy because I did get to meet her! Hopefully I'll get to conversate more with her next time if Triple Cheese lets me (haha I read your blog Ginger Fish)!

And hey, because this concert has made me fall in love with Evanescence all over again, I've decided to start planning a road trip! If Ev is touring in the U.S. in the summer of 2007, I have decided that as a "senior trip" for myself, I'm going to follow Ev around on their tour. I'm gonna be a groupie! But hopefully Ev will be touring in the U.S. around that time (which I'm sure they will because Evanescence.com said that they were gonna come back and play larger arenas). I dunno how I'm gonna do this or if I'm gonna have to do this by myself, but I'm going on this road trip!!!!! :D

Haha, that is pretty funny that her dad fell asleep because I would find that hard to do since the chugging of the instruments and the screaming fans never cease at any point. I'm really glad my mom stayed awake for the whole thing because, in the end, she really enjoyed the concert.

Haha, I actually burnt a CD with all of Ev's slow songs that I listen to every night to help me fall asleep faster

You know, I should really do that because, on most nights, it takes me a very long time to fall asleep. I think if I put the CD on around 10:00 or so, I would be asleep in 10 minutes or less because the soothing sound of Amy' voice would sound like a lullaby at that time of the night and lull me right into closing my eyes and dosing off.

lol well, I was standing next to a member of Evanescence! How hard do you think I was supposed to grin?!

Boy, it really makes me angry that I couldn't get that picture with Amy because, now that I think about it, I would have probably grinned as hard as you for the simple reason that the encounter was the best moment of my life. I would have enjoyed seeing what I would have looked like with a huge smirk on my face. I would have probably laughed my head off because it would have been so funny, LOL!

But I'm happy because I did get to meet her!

I am still beside myself about my meeting with Amy, even after 5 days have passed:D.

I know that feeling. When you're waiting for the concert to arrive, time just drags along because it was something that you were anticipating for so long, then, when it is all over, time starts going by way too quickly again because you have gone back into your normal, boring routines. Ev performing for a little over an hour, too, didn't even seem like long enough to me, either. I would have really liked them to stay up there longer than they did because they were so awesome.

I know what you are saying. I would have loved to hear them perform Snow White Queen and Cloud Nine from TOD and Everybody's Fool and Taking Over Me or My Last Breath from Fallen. I guess a band only chooses to perform a limited number of songs in a small venue, then saves the wider variety for large arenas.

lol yeah, I was hoping that Ev would've done Cloud Nine and Snow White Queen. Cloud Nine demonstrates the wide vocal range that Amy possesses and Snow White Queen, well, that's one of my favorite songs off TOD. And hey, she wrote it for the fans! Well, for the crazy obsessed stalking ones..... :p

But yeah, when Ev comes back to the U.S. to hit up the larger arenas, I hope that the setlist is gonna be changed up a little bit.

Oh I know. When that radio station was having fans play a game for a chance to win meet and greet passes, I was getting worried that I wasn't gonna be able to meet Ev at all. But then as the night went on, I got more and more confident that the band would reward the rest of their fans with signing autographs and taking pictures afterwards.

And hey, I was right! I got to talk with John, Rocky, and Tim, and get their autographs and pictures with them! Even though I didn't get a pic with Amy, I still got to talk to her and get her autograph as well :D

Daniel_P_16
11-03-2006, 08:07 PM
I was getting worried that I wasn't gonna be able to meet Ev at all.

I had that same worry as well, but for a different reason. When my mom asked a security guard if Amy or anyone else in the band would sign autographs after the concert had ended, she said it was highly unlikely because Ev had not been in Phoenix for 2 1/2 years. That caused my heart to sink to my stomach. We went ahead and gave it a try anyway because I was so eager to get something from Amy or a band member, but I really started to give up hope after an hour or so because there hadn't been a whole lot of activity going on where we were standing at, my feet and legs were sore from standing for so long, and my mom was feeling tired, and didn't want to leave Grandma by herself any longer at the hotel. So, we walked all the way back to our car that was parked at the Circle K 3 blocks down the street and got into it. My mom could still see that I had an eager look in my face to meet someone, so she decided to drive back down to the theatre to give a meeting one more chance. She ended up going into the theatre parking lot this time and chose the nearest parking space to where we had been waitng at before because the theatre had emptied out considerably at this point, which meant that we didn't have to pay anything. I am extremely glad that we chose to go back there, too, because it led to my meeting with Amy and my views of John and Tim. We ended up retuning to our hotel at 11:30 and didn't go to bed until after midnight, but I din't care about that at all because I had just experienced something that will probably never be matched again. I don't think I slept very well or for long that night anyway because my excitement kept me awake.

11-03-2006, 08:18 PM
Well, Daniel_P_16, what you wrote is quite a lot to quote but I'm still gonna respond to what you said.

Because of Evboard and Evthreads, I already knew ahead of time what Ev's setlist was. So once "All That I'm Living For" ended, I knew that Ev wasn't coming back out, no matter how much the fans screamed. At that point, I told my friends that we had to get out of the theatre to secure our spot outside to increase our chance of getting autographs. And I tell you what... nothing was gonna stop me from meeting Ev! NOTHING I was squeezing in between people, I was climbing over seats, because I was desperate!

Well, we got to the back of the theatre where hardly anyone was standing and that's how we met Tim. But then after a while, we wondered if any of the other band members would notice us and go back there. So I asked a stage crew guy and he said that we had a better chance of standing near the entrance.

So my friends and I sprinted to my mom's SUV and she drove us to the side street where that huge iron gate was. And we were just in time too. Richie was about to escort Amy to the tour buses when my friends and I, along with a bunch of other fans, began screaming her name. Luckily, Richie let her go over to us and sign our things before whisking her away.

That is where I also got to talk to John and Rocky. Out of all the band members, those two are my favorite besides Amy. I knew from watching ABH that they would be hilarious... and they were! John thought I was crazy for wanting a pic with him even though the gate was in the way (and you could tell he made it work by squeezing his face thru the bars with a huge grin). Rocky also made the best of the situation by saying that it was his jailhouse pic! Oh, and I also asked Rocky to find Terry for me and he was like, "Terry's probably somewhere eatin a cheeseburger!"

Ahhh... sweet sweet memories :p

That is right. There was maybe only about twenty people in the area where I was standing by the delivery trucks. They all charged toward the gate the minute they saw Amy come out, but it wasn't in a way where nobody had any room to breathe. Everybody was actually very courteous to each other by taking their own turn, then leaving immediately after they got their hug and their autograph. I ended up being about the sixth or seventh person to meet Amy in the group and that was only three or four minutes after she had emerged. There was no pushing, arguing, or bullying of any kind at any time, which I was very pleased about. I had never envisoned waiting fans to act like that at a concert, especially if they hadn't seen the band in such a long time and were eager to see the superstar.

I meet bands all the time, and usually people are very respectful. Mainly because we're all there for the same thing, to meet the ones we love. I always try to be courteous to other fans when meeting the band, once I get my autographs/pics I get out of the way. And I don't like to push and shove, it makes the whole process so much longer, and who feels like having a conflict right before you're going to meet idol? Not me.

I agree! The whole goal is to get the autograph or the hug that you want as quickly as you can, then leave in a timely manner as quick as possible so that the band member can get to everybody that is waiting.

Yeah that could work. Or you could just joke around and be like, "Hey, you guys never asked me how the Ev concert was!" Or you could also bring up the subject by saying, "Oh my gosh, I totally had a brush with fame the other weekend." You know, since you did get three autographs from Amy!

lol when I went back to school, I took my framed autographs and showed it off to everyone! Even though most people arent obsessed with Ev, they were still jealous that I got to meet my idols!

One of my friends didn't even want to acknowledge that I went to the show. She doesn't like Ev, but gets jealous of everything I do without her. So, she still hasn't seen my autographs, but thats ok. After I met Amy, I called her (while she was at work), and just left a message of my screaming about Amy Lee. :)
The next day she called me and said, "I got your message. I couldn't understand anything but, 'ahhh! scream! Amy Lee! Scream! Scream!'. So I figured you got to meet Amy." ;)

Hmmm, that sucks. That's kinda how the situation with my friend went. He used to looove Ev but now he's gotten more into the pop scene (he likes Paris Hilton... ewww ). I told him that I didn't want to take him to the concert but he got all pissed off at me! I was thinking, "What the hell's his problem?!?!" But I still took him.

Turns out he kinda made the concert a little less exciting because he kept complaining about EVERYTHING. I mean, get this, my other friend and I (I took two friends) were waiting in line from 1:30 until the doors opened at 7pm while my complaining friend went to the mall with my mom and my sis. He came to wait with us later a little after 6pm. And after only 15 minutes of waiting, he began to whine about how long it was taking. I was about ready to slap him!!!!! He had no right to complain after my other friend and I had been waiting for 6 1/2 hours!

Oh geez. I think I know which friend you're talking about, the guy in the red hoodie, right? LOL. Friends are such a blessing, but sometimes they can be a pain in the ass.
See, my friend, she's all into the pop punk scene, so Ev is way too hard core for her. But, she believes she's a music/concert expert (which she's not), so I think it pisses her off because I can meet any band I want to without kissing up to them like she does...she'll go to shows early and try to meet them by baking them cookies and such. Honestly, that is so not rock and roll. lol.

Haha right on! It's probably cause all he was doing was sitting on the steps texting people or whatever. Ugh, that made me so mad. It's like, "We're here to meet the band, not to text your dumb ex-boyfriend." Oh, fyi, he's gay lol.

LOL. Friends are such a blessing, but sometimes they can be a pain in the ass.

I TOTALLY agree!

See, my friend, she's all into the pop punk scene, so Ev is way too hard core for her.

That's how my friend is. When TOD first came out and after he listened to all the songs, he was like, "I think she shoulda gone more poppy." And I was like, "Hell no!"

But, she believes she's a music/concert expert (which she's not), so I think it pisses her off because I can meet any band I want to without kissing up to them like she does...she'll go to shows early and try to meet them by baking them cookies and such. Yeah, rock and roll so isn't like that. It's not like we went to go meet some retarded boy band or something. I would think that most rock groups actually know how to appreciate their fans (like Ev :D) and therefore we wouldn't need to suck up to them.

Though I do admire how Katya baked cupcakes for Amy and them! :p

LOL, I think its cute you had to tell me your friend was gay. I could totally tell. Mainly because he told me he wanted my blue Ev tank top, lol! He was nice, but if he didn't really want to be there, he shouldn't have gone.

I don't make food for bands, because 9/10 times they don't eat the treats, they give them away or toss them. They can't trust what fans put into them. Not like they think their fans are going to poison them, but you can never be too sure. PS. I only know this b/c I used to be friends w/ the drummer in Marilyn Manson, and we would always exchange concert stories.

Man, that is just ridiculous. I feel angry and sorry that you had to put up with that tantrum from your friend. I mean, you had already been waiting out there for 6 1/2 hours with your other friend and I am sure you were starting to get very tired, so the last thing you probably needed would have been to put up with somebody who was going to complain after 15 minutes when you had gone the whole day trying your best not to make a peep. If I had been in the same situation, I would have taken the same action as you by trying to slap him or I would have said something like this to him calmly: "You know, I have been waiting out here for the doors to open very patiently for the last 6 1/2 hours. The last thing I need at this point is for someone who hasn't even been here 20 minutes to start complaining about everything because my patience has already been worn thin and I am tired enough as it is from waiting (Believe me, if I had to wait for that long, my patience would be very thin and I would be tired). I am trying to keep my cool through this entire ordeal, so please sit down and keep quiet so I won't have to lose my temper." I also find it to be disloyal that he would leave you and your other friend sitting there all day by yourselves while he went off to the mall with your mom and your sister. If I were you, I would be a little upset at him by the time he returned.

Hopefully, you two have put this little bump in the road behind you and are still friends. He may have been a little bit of (excuse me if this is an insult to you) an ass with his actions at the concert, but I wouldn't have let any of them ruin your friendship with him.

Well truth be told, I was more frustrated with him than upset. But my other friend (who is actually his stepbrother) and I both told him repeatedly to shut up and stuff so it's not like we were entirely quiet about the whole ordeal.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I am making too big of a deal out of this subject (that is just so typical of me, going overboard on something that isn't important) by taking it more literally than you want me to and it is causing us to drift off-topic into something that has absolutely no relation to what this thread is intended to be about in the first place, which is the concert. Daniel_P_16
11-06-2006, 11:46 PM
Well, actually, Alyse, an idea that I know has not been mentioned yet just popped into my mind. The biggest reason why my mom did not park in the parking lot was because the security guard that was guarding the gate and asking for the necessary amount of money that was needed to be paid in order to park in the first place was a real ass. I mean, he used a very demanding and rude tone of voice to my mom in every one of his answers to her questions about the deal with parking, as if he didn't have a lot of patience and wanted us to leave quickly, even though we were not doing anything wrong. If you ask me, the people in the area were bad enough to begin with as it is, but to have a person with that kind of personality stand out there and accept people's payments to a sold out concert certainly does not leave you with a very good impression of the theatre management. It was real annoying to have to put up with that guy and I am glad we didn't have to go through that ordeal more than once because he had no right to be rude to us.

*~DeathDealer~*

Hmmm, to reply to what you said Daniel_P_16, that sucks that the security guard was being an ass. I dunno if it was the same person, but the guy my mom spoke to when coming in and out of the venue parking lot was nice to her. But then again, we arrived a lot earlier than you and your mom did lol.

Yeah, they probably have different security guards working the parking lot gate at different points of the day, so the guard your mom spoke to was probably the one that always works the morning shift, whereas the guard that my mom spoke to only worked the evening shift. But, you're right when you say it does suck that the security guard we encountered was being such an ass to my mom because she didn't raise her voice, lose her patience, or yell at him in any way when she asked him her simple questions, she didn't do any violent gesturing at any point, and she was not breaking any kind of rule trying to do what she wanted to get done because she is the sweetest, gentlest, and most considerate person that I have ever known in my life, meaning that she would not do anything to a person that would leave them with a bad impression of her, so I am really offended when someone is as rude to her as that security guard was.

Someone did boo Evanescence, in either the first or second song. But it was one person - probably someone who only goes to concerts to boo the band and start trouble. I actually wrote an e-mail to the reporter who wrote that review and asked her if she was even at that concert, or if she was just having a bad day. I ripped her article to shreds and corrected everything in it. I said that an opinion was one thing, but that most of her story wasn't even true.

I don't get it, Amy sounded just as amazing on the DVD as she does at any other live performance.

Well, that's your opinion, and you're certainly entitled to it. Don't knock mine and I won't knock yours. :)

Trust me, I'm as much as Evanescence freak as anyone here. But on the ABH concert DVD, she sounded winded and strained from the very first song to the very last. She sounded like she'd just run a marathon and had no time to calm down before running onstage to sing. She sounded like she had absolutely no warm-up time. The only parts of that DVD concert that I liked were the new vocal/piano intro to Bring Me to Life, and My Immortal. So the slower songs were okay (although I hated the new arrangement of Breathe No More), but the others just sounded strained.

The Phoenix concert was absolutely amazing. She was relaxed, she was warmed up, she was absolutely perfect, not to mention beautiful. :)

I was at the NYC show as well, I've already made my own assessment. But, I didn't say the NYC audience was terrible, the bassist of RT said that, and my friend Mary (a native). She goes to a lot of concerts in NY, we caught Ev there, and she didn't think much of the audience. I mostly go to AZ shows, and the NYC audience seemed about the same to me. Its the Native New Yorkers that had a problem with the audience.

And about Amy on the ABH dvd, I thought she sounded pretty good considering all the physical aspects of her stage performance. It's really hard to sing that well at all, but while you're running and dancing, and head banging all around the stage, you are going to be a bit tired (and I would call her a fake if she didn't sound a bit tired).

I'm just saying, give her some credit. She's obviously not going to sound as amazing live as she does on the cds because she's not sitting in a studio, with a million chances to hit that note, or sing that staff right.

I'm not knocking anyones opinions, merely stating my own (and others I've heard).
If you disagree, fine, but don't bark at me because you took
it as some personal attack.

11-07-2006, 06:37 PM
Nah, I do know the stresses of performing onstage. And I am constantly in a state of WTFness because I totally can't jump around like Amy can and expect to actually have enough air to sing anything. Hahaha. I just think that touring nonstop in all different time zones can be a strain, which is why she wasn't quite at the top of her game on ABH *shrugs*

That's an interesting note, though...that you said the native New Yorkers didn't think much of it. I'm from outside NYC, not actually from the city itself. *shrug* Maybe it's a matter of who they've seen otherwise.

This is what happens when I get in a bad mood. It passes and then I feel bad about it afterwards. I should just like...stfu or something when I feel bad. :p

I agree with what you say here. No singer is as good on stage as they are on the CD because, as you said, when a singer is recording a CD, they want to be flawless in their work because they want their fans to get a good impression of them, so they will sit in the studio for hours on end when they are recording and keep practicing until they get everything the way they want it to be. It is going to be different for the singer when they are on stage because, let's face it, they are probably extremely nervous perfroming in front of thousands of people in the first place and they know that they will not get criticism from their fans if they make a mistake in the lyrics or on a note because the whole reason why the fans are attending the event in the first place is because they love the singer and want to show that love to him or her by coming out and having a good time during a performance. The fans never really pay much attention to the music at a concert in the first place anyway because they are too ecstatic and enthusiastic about being in the same venue as their musical idol and knowing that they have a chance to possibly meet that person for an autograph afterward.

Haha, I had that same reaction when I checked into this thread again at about 6:00 or so after I had been off it a few hours. I mean, when I came on here and took a quick peer into this thread the minute I came in the door from school, the only action that had went on for the entire day was you replying to the last thing I posted late last night. I quickly replied to what you had said and then I left the board because I didn't think anything would go on until the next time you came back on and said something. I couldn't have been any more wrong. But, you're right, it is best that you do not jump into the conversation that went on while we were both out of this thread because all it seemd like to me was Ginger Fish, On an Island, and Katya lashing out at each other's own opinions, which, if you ask me, should not be happening in any thread. Now, yes, I did post a reply to one post during the conversation but that was to show that I was supporting one of Ginger Fish's opinions and I was hoping it would put a end to all of the arguing. Now, I'll mind my own business and not say anything until a new topic commences.

You're welcome. I also think that whole situation with everyone lashing out at each other has been put to an end because Katya just sent me a PM saying that she was sorry for her lack of tact in her posts earlier on in this thread. You know, Alyse, I just thought of something else. This one probably will not go far but it is worth a try. I just couldn't help but notice that the same two ticket sacalpers were wandering up and down the streets around the venue looking for somebody to steal tickets from at every moment leading up to the concert. I know that having ticket scalpers at a concert is very typical, but seeing the same two over and over again just drove me crazy. I mean, they have to give up eventually, right?

Oh, I know. I didn't feel safe with my tickets at any time with those scalpers out there. My mom and I purchased our tickets from the "Will Call" booth at 5:00 or so, and I had to constantly clutch mine close to my chest or stuff it into my pocket to keep it out of sight as we went to eat dinner because I was well aware that those scalpers were lurking and could have easily stolen the ticket at any second because they were in different parts of the area at every moment. They even asked my mom and I if we had any tickets when we walked into the venue for the show at 7:00 p.m., but we lied and said that we didn't have any so that the scalpers would know not to ask us again later.

If the stalkers had stolen our tickets, I wouldn't have beaten them but I would have reported them to theatre security so that they could call the police and have the scalpers arrested and then I would have asked for a refund on the tickets because I had traveled for three hours to see my favorite band in concert for the first time and I was not going to blow the opportunity.

And both you and I are probably more obsessed with this band than anyone else is, Alyse.:D  :)

Oooh, you're walking into a touchy subject there. lol how exactly could we determine if someone was more obsessed with Ev than someone else???

Good point. Unless we polled every single Ev fan out there on how obsessed they were with the band, we can not conclude if one person is more obsessed than another person. I was just so excited with what you said before when I posted that I got cocky and jumped ahead of myself without thinking logically:p .

lol I was just reading the "You know you're obsessed [with Ev] when..." thread and it seems that using the term obsessed is putting it lightly for some people. Hell, even my friends think that I've stretched the boundary far beyond obsessed.

I found it amusing to read that thread cause I agreed with almost all of the stuff on there

Hmm, that sounds interesting *runs off to look at the thread.*

You know, there really needs to be more people than just both of us posting in this thread now because I definitely believe that I no longer have anything in mind about the concert to discuss.

Yeah me neither. I could spend this entire thread talking about other Ev-related things but not the concert anymore since it's done and over with... unfortunately :(

On an Island

BTW, since someone already complimented you on your signature, I think I misght as well say that I absolutely love your avatar:cool: :)

Not to start anything up again, but I wanted to clear something up: I wasn't lashing out at anyone's opinions, nor was I rude to anyone. That's not really something that I do. In the end, I was trying to kid around, and things were taken the wrong way, something that's easily done on a forum.... :)

Well yeah, considering that it is literally impossible to hear the person's tone of voice if they're communicating through a keyboard lol :p

But it's all good now so let's just put that little scrap behind us.
